copper iud

posted 3rd Dec
I am interested in the copper iud. Does or has anyone had one before? We originally planned on a vasectomy but are having second thoughts.

I have Paragard. The first month I hated it, but now I completely forgot I had it until I read this post.

eta: Paragard is a copper iud

Paragard? I have it. I love it. I have regular cycles each month. So the no hormones thing is great.. The only negative i have to say, is it made my periods heavier. But other than that, no problems. DH can feel the strings sometimes, but he said they dont hurt. And i havent had them trimmed. And almost 2 years, and no pregnancies!

Oh. And i LOVE not having to remember to take BC pills. And we dont use condoms. Which is another plus, seeing as we both hate them.. Haha

Do you notice any weird metallic smells? I definitely want it for the low hormones.

It doesnt have "low hormones" it has no hormones at all.. Which is another reason i like it. Bc it doesnt mess with my bodies natural hormones. And no, i havent noticed any weird metallic smells..

Its also an IUD that has been on the market the longest. My mom got her first one after having my sister.. 16 years ago...

Plus. I can spend $600 (my insurance didnt cover it) and have BC thats good for 10 years. Or i couldve been spending $30/month. (So $360 in on yr) so essentially-im saving money too

I have had it for almost 2 years and I like it. For the first few months my periods were a little heavier than normal, but it wasn't too bad. Never had any weird issues with it or anything.

Well, besides fluctuating between spotting, bleeding heavily with clots and VERY short periods of no bleeding since I got it 11 weeks ago there hasn't been any other issues with it so far. Even with the bleeding its better than the Depo shot by far since I had HORRIBLE side effects(including pregnancy symptoms) the 3 months I was on it.

Yeah. The only thing i hate is sometimes my periods are like death. And others, theyre fine. Not light. But not to where i fill a super+ in an hr (which is how it is sometimes) but i just take a muscle relaxer and im good! Haha

My OB told me the only time he removes paragards, is when ppl want to TTC. He removes more mirenas for other complications. Im happy with my decision   and it didnt even hurt when being inserted.. I had slight cramping afterwards. And light bleeding. But thats it

I wish it WAS my period but the bleeding has been nonstop since I got it inserted. I haven't had an actual period since February since I was pregnant, miscarried at 12ish weeks and then went on the Depo in June. My OB has no idea when I will get my period back.

Awe   im sorry moma. Have you tried taking BC pills as well to try and regulate things? Its safe to do with paragard.. I did it for a while when my periods were unbearable. But i ended up not liking the BC pills i was on. So i stopped them...

I wish I could but I had what they think might have been a stroke in January and then found out I also have heart issues so I'm not allowed to take anything with estrogen in it. That means the pill, patch and Nuvaring are out. It sucks because if I could go back on the pill I would. I never had any problems when I was on it.
