Progesterone...

posted 3rd Dec
So 4 days ago, I posted about all the contractions, sharp pains, pressure, etc. At my doctor's appointment that day, she decided to check me. She said that my cervix was really low and soft and that I was 1cm dilated, so she sent me to the hospital.

They monitored me for hours. I was having inconsistent contractions that I couldn't feel. They did an ultrasound to check my cervical length. She said it was at least 1cm, but could be less. They couldn't really tell because the baby is breech and kept kicking the wand. So they gave me a steroid shot and put me on strict bed rest. I had to go back Friday to get another steroid shot and they put me on progesterone suppositories to strengthen my cervix.

What does the progesterone actually do? And does it work at 30 weeks or later? Any personal experiences?

Yeah..it seems to be a bit mixed. Guess I'll ask my doctor at my follow-up on Wednesday.

A friend of mine had to be on it until like 36 weeks or after for similar reasons & I assume it worked because she didn't have him until around her due date.

I have no experience with the progesterone. However, I was dilated at 22 weeks with my oldest, and contracting. They gave me the steroids and put me on procardia. At 30 weeks I was already to a 3. But, at 36 weeks 5 days I was still at just a 3 and I had to be induced

It strengthens the cervix to keep it firm and can weaken contractions and keeps the placenta from starting to detach. I was on progesterone suppositories from 2-14 weeks and I start injections next week.

With my first, I was 3cm dilated at 26/27 weeks and contracting and I had a short cervix. They gave me terbutaline to stop contractions but no steroid shots or progesterone. My water broke on it's on at 39 weeks exactly.
