now i feel like a bad mom

posted 3rd Dec
I worked all weekend so I was not here, Well when i woke up this morning i saw scratches all over my 22 month old's legs from our stupid puppy... She jumps on him when he walks cause she wants to play... but I feel really bad. Should i get rid of the dog? And what can i put on the scratches to make them heal faster?

Also im not 100% sure its from the dog but i have seen her jump on him to play... but he couldnt have scratched himself like this right?

No. You teach the puppy that he/she is not to jump on people. You have to train them.

Also, cut and FILE her nails so they aren't so sharp.

If the scratches aren't infected I don't think there's anything you can really do about 'em. As for the dog, I wouldn't just get rid of him because he scratched my kids legs lol. if he was biting, knocking over, and just overly aggressive then yeah. It's things you should of thought about when you got the dog.

Why would you get rid of the dog? You're suppose to train them.

  This

Also, put pants on your kid till then. It could be scratching from you LO's nails, but they wouldn't be straight like the puppies and you would be able to tell by how long his nails are. Just keep the scratches clean and make sure they don't get red.

No dogs can be trained. All you got to do is train yours and constantly cut their nails.

You better get used to scrapes and bruises with little boys...it's going to happen! You can clean them and put bacitracin or some other kind of antibiotic ointment on them if you're worried.

She's a puppy, you have to be patient. They are worse than children.

As a dog lover and someone who worked with them for 6 years, please - TRAIN YOUR DOG. Don't just get rid of her because she does something you don't like (that is completely fixable). Too many dogs end up in shelters because their owners are just too lazy to train them.

Look at your local Petco or Petsmart and see if they offer Puppy Training classes (we did this with our sheltie and it was amazing). Also, make sure you keep the puppies nails trimmed so they won't scratch so bad.

If you can't find/afford puppy classes then invest in a clicker and a bag of treats. Any time puppy does a favorable behavior (sits, listens, lays down, etc). Click the clicker and then give puppy a treat.
