Allergic to Salmon?
posted 3rd Dec
I've had Salmon many times before but last night when I had a couple bites of my boyfriends I had a reaction to it. Within 30 minutes my hands and arms had a huge rash on them. I went to the ER and they gave me two shots in the butt. Has anyone been allergic to something during pregnancy that they weren't before pregnancy. S/N: they checked for the gummy bears heart rate and got it 144 and I here a nurse outside saying " we should still run a pregnancy test to determine she's really pregnant" Who says that? Lol -_-

How did he prepare the salmon?
As an adult it's highly unlikely that a food you have repeatedly eaten would all the sudden cause a severe reaction!
It's more likely that he cooked the salmon in something or used some seasoning that you reacted to.

Not unheard of.
Your body is constantly changing so you can develop allergies...I'm sure pregnancy can help that process along too lol
I used to be able to have Robitussin DM until I was about 17. The DM part I'm now allergic to. My hands got HUGE.

I agree with Safka- my husbsand is allergic to parsley so we have to be VERY careful what he eats!

The doctor said it was most likely undercooked and the bacteria the fish eats wasn't killed and that 30 minutes after my body would probably release antihistimes and that's why I had the reaction. My boyfriend used the same exact stuff I've used before (garlic, parsley, salt, pepper, and lemon juice). He feels pretty bad even though I'm not mad at him.

Yes. I've been around cats my entire life, and when we got a new one while i was pregnant, i had a really bad reaction. It can happen during pregnancy since your hormones are so wackadoo.

Huh. I did not know this! Neither I, nor any of my family has any food allergies so I really don't know much on allergies aside from common textbook info.

Doctor said its very possible it's the pregnancy and that the second reaction will most likely be worst so don't risk it during pregnancy. New to me though too.

Salmon is a low mercury fish, so every once in a while while pregnant is perfectly safe.

Kinda sad it didn't agree with me because it is an awesome fish.

Yes, with allergies, your body has to have had previous exposure for it to effect you.

It's actually not that uncommon to have random allergies that only effect you through pregnancy - and vice versa (allergies disappear during pregnancy only to reappear after delivering).

not true. i've eaten peanut products my ENTIRE life. i LOVE peanut butter and jelly, especially. almost 2 years ago, i ate a handful and my throat closed up and i had to have the ambulance called. i developed a sudden peanut allergy.
