Naming a child
posted 2nd Dec
When naming a child do you like unique names? Names that are spelled differently? Do you think siblings should have a theme to there names ( such as same cultural background, a letter in common, or a meaning)?
Also what about naming a baby after someone?
I have a daughter named Jayme Lee Ann and if this child is a girl she will be Isobel Claire, both are Scottish. If its a boy we are considering Patrick or Connor... Unsure on those yet. Our daughter is named after her dad, and grandpa...

I like names spelled correctly but I don't like common names. I would go with unique but nothing I can't pronounce or that looks butchered up. I'm sticking with spanish names. I still don't know my babies name
Edit to add I won't name my child after anyone I personally know. I think that is very weird.

Nah. We didn't take our daughters name into consideration when picking a name for our son. We like names that appeal to us. Nothing fancy and no crazy spelling.

No to all the questions except the naming after someone. My son has my brothers name for a middle name.

Uncommon real names with no misspellings. No themes. They should get their own names without a theme.
I have an Abigail and Ariadne. The As were not intentional.
Eta: the naming after someone is ok. Both have my middle name as their second middle name. My situation is different in that my first passed and since my middle is a family name (mine, my mom's and grandma's) so I figured I would use it for Ariadne too. So it could get passed down.
I also think children should be juniors and they shouldn't have the same middle names.

Our 1st is Addie Nichole. Nichole is after my husband Nicholas.
Our 2nd is Jasmin Pearl. Not named after anyone. I liked the name Jasmin and Pearl sounded great with the first name or at least to me.
Our 3rd (this pregnancy) we are going with Zoey Lynn. My middle name is Lynn, her great aunts middle name is Lynn also. If for some odd reason it would be a boy it would be Alexander Dean. Alex for short. We have had that name picked out since my first pregnancy. So no real order to us. LOL. The only think I can say is we have a first, middle and last. A, J and Z.

My son's name is french/german and I am looking at the same for a girl's name. If this baby is another boy I prob will name him Vincent or Theodor. I am having the hardest time...

I only have 1 kid, but I kinda like when the kids names at least sound like they fit well together. I don't like "yew-neeq" names, but I did want a name that not everyone had. I wouldn't name my daughter a name if I knew someone that had the name. Her middle name is a family name, but her first name is one that I don't know other people with that name. It was another version of a relative I had, but not even close to being the same name if that makes sense.

I agree but my daughter's names are both the correct traditional Scottish spellings. And they are family names. The only theme we stuck with is Scottish, which is both our heritage. My husband's grandmother was a Porteous, which is one of the largest Scottish families. I want there names to flow well together, but not be matchy.

I picked my boys names simply because I liked them. I actually heard all 3 of my boys names on tv. Aiden I heard on Jon&Kate plus 8, Carson I heard on a medical show and Elliott was after detective stabler on law and order svu. I didn't want to do a theme or same letter I personally don't like it. All 4 of my kids have middle names that are family names. I won't name my kids after anybody, atleast not a first name.

I like names that are unique. I'm Rhiannon, so there were never any others while I was in school. People can never pronounce it (like Shannon but with Ree) but I like not having a common name.
My DD is Marina Rose. She was named after my grandma who died when I was 10. Her name was Rosamarina, so I just switched it up.
DS is Roran Xavier. Roran is from the Eragon series, and Xavier is after Charles Xavier from X-men, haha.

I like very unique names with different spellings. My son is a jr and he is my only child with a normal name.

I'm fine with traditional spellings in fact I quite enjoy seeing Isobel instead of Isabelle. Just no Issah'belle or anything unique
