scabs on scalp

posted 2nd Dec
Ok ladies, long story but I'm going to try to explain it as best as i can. So when my daughter was 1 year old she got this thing on her scalp called black dot ringworm. Basically it made her hair fall, it was about the size of a baseball. Took her to the docs and they gave me topical meds, but that didn't work. Then they gave her oral meds and it went away...she finally grew her hair back to normal. a little bit after that I noticed she started getting some scabs around the same part of her head. This has been going on for about a year and a half now. I basically pick the scabs..and it grows back. These scabs are not going away on its own. When i pick em, it just gets like wet with a little blood, and by the next morning she already has a scab again. I took her to the docs last month and she said that it was "allergies" and told me to put hydrocortisone, even though it doesn't itch her. I told the doctor is has been going on for about a year and a half and she just said it was allergies!. I've tried changing shampoos and it hasnt worked. My husband is going to call tomorrow to see if I can take her without an app because I'm tired of these damn scabs already. Anybody had a similar experience? TIA

Have you tried leaving the scabs alone so they can heal the skin underneath? That's what scabs are for. Picking them just opens up the wound, and then they just grow back to cover and protect the wound.

I have done that. I don't pick them everyday. I've left them for weeks, but they do get soft when I wash her hair, and then it starts all over again. I don't wash her hair everyday though. And it has been going on for about a year and a half now...it would have to heal by now.

I would go to another Dr for a second opinion and then maybe an allergist. that doens't seem normal. and stop picking the scabs.
