I've seen it happen to adults. But regardless, there's no use arguing with someone like you who has some BS line for everything. While my kids will have chores to learn responsibility, there's a limit. A child is only a child so long and shouldn't be expected to do adult things a parent should be doing.

Ok, so I found this:

In support of this view, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, 3 there were 19,109 injuries from 1993 till year 2000 due to washing machines. Most of the reported cases of washing machine injuries come from North America and were often due to a design that is now defunct.

They posted 3 cased. 2 fractured arms. 1 fractured finger. Nothing mentioned actual limb losses. And also, the line I bolded. Even putting that aside, that averages out to 2730 'accidents' annually. With that being said, In 2004, there were 3,308 unintentional drownings in the United States, an average of nine people per day. An estimated 5,000 children ages 14 and under are hospitalized due to unintentional drowning-related incidents each year; 15 percent die in the hospital and as many as 20 percent suffer severe, permanent neurological disability. I guess that means I will never let my kid go swimming.

There are 14 dolphin rapes reported per year in the U.S.

Dolphin rape is very real, and while meant to serve as an outlandish comparison, it wasn't meant to be a joke.

That's beside the point. I have a BS line for it because I don't think "losing a limb to a washing machine" is a valid argument. However, what I've bolded now is a valid argument. I think it largely depends on the mental capacity and maturity of the child and I give OP the benefit of the doubt that she knows what her step-daughter is physically and mentally capable of handling. My daughter, who is 3, for example has helped me with laundry, she folds towels and helps me load the machine. She has also helped me with handwashing dishes. Smurf, I've even supervised her cutting a cucumber for a salad (with a butter knife). Some people may think I am insane for letting my kid do these things, but I know she can handle it and that she ENJOYS it. I plan to implement a daily chore system with her as well when she's older, of course not before evaluating what she is capable of handling. It's 100% a case-by-case basis.

You seem quite interested in dolphin rape. Almost to a creepy degree. I think you may need to speak to someone about that.

You could google it for yourself. It's serious smurf. Dolphins are massive douchebags and there are even videos of dolphins trying to rape people. They drag divers and swimmers into their rape caves and drown them and rape their corpses. They rape other dolphins too. There are something 4-10 dolphins ganging up on a female and forcing her to copulate. They're not the friendly, squeeky, intelligent mammals they're known as. They're scumbags.

Not particularly, but I brought it up because your argument was equally ridiculous. Since it was brought up, I don't think it should negate my entire argument simple because it's not a fact widely known. There are real, tangible cases of dolphin rape whereas I've yet to come across a single case of an adult LOSING a limb to a washing machine. That's the point.

I dont think it's a big deal, either. My dad is super handicapped, so I started doing laundry for EVERYONE when I was younger than that.
