That's great! Online schooling is not for me. I don't feel like I'm learning anything if I can't speak with people face to face, and interact in that way.... I'm definitely more of that type of learner.

Are you doing a Master's program, though?

We laughed at the people that were going to school for psych and just getting their BS/BA with no other schooling. We always said they can get a job at McDonald's and ask WHY someone would like fries with that.

Because fries are phallic, obviously.

How can you do interactive case studies through an online school? Aren't clinicals required in a Psych Masters program?

Online was never an option for my degree. You can't study bones through the internet and you can't dig through a keyboard.

I'm getting my BA is psych, it opens a lot of doors, you can get I to social work, probation, or continue on with a higher degree and get into counseling or therapy.

Personally, I'm majoring is psych and minoring in criminology to get into law school.

Oh and yes, I would never do online schooling for a BA or higher, it's pointless and most people won't recognize it.

Yes online schooling is not for every one. It definitely means a lot more time trying to find your own answers, but I have had such great professors that they have helped me so much (responding to emails fast) and I have aced every single paper I've written because it requires a lot more thought and your own research. It definitely is self-disciplined. I do miss the face to face interaction though. I'm doing a certificate program now (I was in the master's program at a different school for professional counseling but switched) and then once I find a teaching job, it's only 5 more credits to get my master's. I'm doing the special education program since I have the background for it, it just made the most sense!

Who is "most people"??? That isn't true at all. Online schooling is harder IMO and I have had great feedback from interviews being that I was doing online schooling on my own. Just because you sit in a classroom doesn't mean you're any better than someone that does online classes - personally, i think each employer will think differently, but it definitely doesn't mean it won't be recognized. Unless you specify online schooling, who's going to know?

It's just my opinion, I didn't say it was harder or easier but I don't believe you graduate with the same qualifications. There is classes I take that I don't believe could be taken online.

The only problem might be finding a higher level job down the line. The places I applied to won't accept a degree from an online school (Smithsonian, CIA, FBI, and National Archives). They don't recognize those schools as valid past a BA/BS level. It was hard enough convincing them that my PhD classes at the NIAS was good enough for them and that's an internationally recognized school, but it's in a foreign second world country (leave in January, hired contingent on completion of dissertation).

My firm won't hire from an online school, you need a certain amount of practical experience.

You do what's called clinicals during certain semesters and you journal about your experiences and keep in contact with your professors and advisors during the semester. Case studies are done on your own - we either make them up or they are given to us. We have discussion forums on the online school page and we interact that way. However, by the master's level, most should know how to do a case study without much assistance. And it depends what field of psychology you go in. Since I'm doing teaching, I do my human relations all on my own and then am given a field experience and after that I will do a semester of student teaching.
