Don't be scared. YES labor hurts. Keep an open mind and know you have options.

Eta: options as in pain managment*

You will be fine. Have you thought about using any pain control like breathing exercises or maybe even an epidural? There are several ways to reduce the amount of pain you will experience so don't worry too much. Unfortunately for most women there will be a point where it does hurt but you know what? There's nothing you can do about that part.

When I had my son I pushed for two hours. The first hour and a half wasn't bad but after his head started coming out I didn't think I could do it anymore. I wasn't screaming or anything but I was more or less saying, "Oh my god, I can't do this." The nurse looked at me and said, "You don't have a choice. Take a breather, collect yourself, and push!" She said just what I needed to hear and about 10 minutes later my son was born. I immediately forgot about the pain. When they say it goes away right then and there they mean it. It really does disappear as soon as your baby comes out. It might hurt when you deliver the placenta or if they have to sew you up but by that point they can offer pain medicine if you choose. I was personally so caught up in my son being here that I didn't even notice when I delivered my placenta. I literally had no idea, lol.

Anyway, like I said, it might sound crass but you don't have a choice so why waste your time being scared? Know that women have been doing this forever and there are plenty who have been terrified of the pain and yet they came out just fine after it's all said and done with.

Hi Shannon, i have already got a little girl and i was so scared of labour like urself and i do not like pain as well i am such a winp ha ha, my little girl came 5 weeks early and it wasnt as bad as i thou when i got ready to push i had pain but by then you can have the gas and air or another ones u wont so it wasnt to bad. The best apart of the pain was seeing my little girl at the end of it and how much she was worth it.
