re: Forward facing a 5 month old...

Then you'll just have to do like other poor folks do & leave a few 9 volts laying around he can suck on. It's not as good of a jolt, but it'll do in a pinch.

[snip!] ... son hits a year I'll be turning him around so fast... ummm no I won't. Who cares if they don't like it, it's for their SAFETY."</blockquote>

DH tried to make me feel like an ass when I bought outlet covers. He was like, "do you know how hard it would be for him to electrocute himself? He'd have to stick two pieces of metal in each slot simultaneously at the same exact time. When are you going to not be watching him when he has 2 pieces of metal?"

I stared a hole through his soul and put them in the basket and walked away. He wouldn't stop, "we dont even have metal laying around. What could he possibly put in there?" I just yelled, "a smurfing bobby pin that fell out of my hair! Do you want him to get hurt? Shut up. Just shut up, you're being an idiot"

Don't smurf with mom.

My daughter will be 13 months in 5 days amd i get so much smurf because shes still RF. Most of my friend started FF at 9 or 10 months. I would rather my daughter be safe if we get in an accident.

There's a reason they make that smurf. Yes, the chances are low that your kid will actually electrocute himself. But someones's kid DIED because of it. Always better to be safe than sorry.

Is that even legal there? here it is 12 months minimum & so far I don't think I've seen anyone not go at least that long.

You can tell Dh this...my sister called me freaked out about a story in their local paper (this would be like 6 years ago when I was pregnant) to warn me that a local baby drooled onto a power strip & burned his face & needed surgery to repair it. YIKES. So yeah - a few pluggie things is worth the effort & the peace of mind.

I had no idea about the risks when I had my first. My seat said I could forward face at 6 months. So I did. My daughter was tiny too... I hate to think what could have happened if I was ever in a car accident. I get all anxious thinking about it still, and she's 6 now. My second baby I RF only for 12 months because that's all my seat would allow   even then, people would laugh when they saw me putting her in her seat. I got so many people ask why she wasn't forward facing yet.

It's 12 months here too but they think since the kid is over 20 pounds it's fine even when i tell them it's not safe. One of my friends friend has her 6 month old FF

I got one from big w that was longer than most of the others I'd seen whilst still being compact enough for me to fit 3 seats in my tiny car lol!
He is 1 in 2 weeks and loves it coz he can have his bottle or nap more comfortably.
I think we may have another 6 months + at least where he will RF no worries and he isn't a little boy either! He is size 1-2

Man I hear that. Addison RF until she was 3 years old and 30lbs. I heard so much mainly from MIL....We turned her FF in a Naulilus and at just over 4 she is still harnessed...MIL always asks why she's still in a harness....I guess because her other granddaughter (our neice) was in a backless booster at 3.

I turned by oldest around at 10 months because she started hating car rides because she really was bored. She was tall enough and weighed ebough too. My baby is 7 months old is almost tall enough and almost weighs enough now (she is 19lbs). However, since she has my oldest to entertain her then I am not really in a hurry to switch her around anytime soon.
