What are my odds of having another Ectopic Pregnancy?

posted 2nd Dec
On October 2nd I found out I was pregnant, and also found out it was an Ectopic Pregnancy.. As of now, my HCG levels arent quite at 0 yet, but within another week to 2 weeks, my doctor said they should be. He also told me that I have to wait about 2 months before I TTC again if I want to. My question is, I was told that once you have one Ectopic Pregnancy, its more likely youll have another in the future. Is this true? or is it something that just happens? and just because I had one, doesnt mean i will or wont have another? I really want to TTC again in a few months, but Ive been pregnant 5 times now, and I only have one child, so with all this bad luck and now going through an Ectopic, Im so worried about ever trying again and being pregnant for the 6th time which might not go good. Not to mention going through an Ectopic was just horrible, very painful and this long road of checking my hcg levels, and after 2 months its still not over.

I have been taking anatomy this semester and I was told that once someone has an ectopic pregnancy its not very likely your egg will pass through that fallopian tube it would use the other one. I am not saying that will happen but its not as likely. As far as having an ectopic its pretty rare that it happens in general even though it seems like its happened to a lot of people.

Hmm, Im hoping it doesnt happen again. but the way ive always heard, once you have one, your odds of it happening again are higher. But like you said, i THOUGHT they were pretty rare.
If you find anything else out, let me know. Ive done some research but not finding out to much about it.

My cousin had one and then got pregnant 3months later and now has a beatiful 1year old daughter. I have had a miscarriage and they say to wait 3 months to let your body heal and the chances of it happening agin are really low. Good luck.

I am so sorry for your losses I can't even imagine specially with a still born. I had a mc with twins at 10wks and I still think about it everyday. If you don't mind me asking what happened what were the signs? I'm so scared that it will happen to me. I am 35wks and getting really nervous about delivery. I know once I hear him cry I will be releaved. Good luck to you I hope that you get a sticky baby very soon.

Im sorry for your loss as well.... My stillborn was actually early early on.. at 16.3 weeks... My water actually broke while i was in walmart, so of course i knew that was the end.. but the babys heart stopped within minutes before he was born. I had several u/s's the night it happen, but had my last u/s about 10 minutes before he came out, and his heart was still beating, very low heartbeat but, he held on till the end. It was the worst thing ive ever went through. I dont think even now with having a child that ill ever fully get over that. ya know.
So im sorry i cant answer your signs about the warning... I wish i could help and give you some releif on that.. but i can tell you, if your worried, alot of people have told me that theyve asked/ and or their doctor did an u/s for the heck of it while they were in labor. My cousin actually for her 1st baby was 15 when she had her daughter, and being so young her doctor said things like that can happen ( not sure why he would say that or if its true ) but she was so scared and told them she wanted an u/s to make sure the baby was ok.. and they had no problem doing one while she was in labor. I also had the fear of it happening with my DD, but thankfully i felt her move and everytime the doctors would try to put the monitor on my belly, she kept kicking at it and moving, so i knew she was okay =)

I had an Ectopic in March in my right tube, it was the most painful thing I've ever been through and I was in and out of hospital for weeks. I had internal bleeding for awhile too and had to be monitored by blood pressure and scans for awhile. I am now 26weeks pregnant with a very healthy little boy, I got pregnant quite early on and I got took to hospital at 11weeks thinking it was another Ectopic! I was in so much shock when she said nope everything is fine, and showed me the scan   the doctors had got it into my head that I'd NEVER have a healthy pregnancy! And they don't even know why I had an Ectopic either as I was tested for everything that can cause it. I didn't have my tube removed either I decided against it and went for the methotrexate. They don't know if my right tube is badly. damaged or not, remember you've got your other tube! And even with a damaged or blocked tube the egg can still pass down, I think its just luck really. I know you can have a healthy pregnancy after an Ectopic as I am living proof. Also in my future pregnancies I will always be offered to have a 7week scan now, to check if it is Ectopic so they can catch it early. Good luck! And I am sorry for your loses

I had an ectopic october the chances depend on your health.. such as if you have a condition causing it or just a fluke. I have cysts and other issues but have a normal pregnancy this time around.

Totally agree 100% !! Ive never had pain as bad as that! When people asked me how bad the pain was, I really couldnt even describe it. All I know is it was worse then labor and any other pain ive had in my life.
Im so thankful to have a healthy 5 yr old, however I did have problems with that pregnancy the whole time, But I would love to just be able to carry one more baby to term and have no major complications ya know?
Mine was in the left tube, they also told me that i had 3 cyst on my left tubes, so my left side went through some hell, the pain from it all was ughh crazy.
My doctor never said about anything afterwards, so Ive been trying to ask on here and do my research on my odds next time around...
If you dont mind me asking, What did your doctor tell you can cause it? Cause as I said my doctor really never told me much.... And I also got the Methotrexate shot... Its been over 2 months now and my hcg levels arent quite down to 0 yet, about another week or 2 and they should be.. I go again friday for more blood work to check them, and all my doctor tells me is once they go down, i have to wait 2 months before TTC again.... Im just so so so scared about TTC again, and when it does happen, how it will go...
I was just so thrilled because i conceived this pregnancy the 2nd month after i got off the pill, so it happen so quick and i couldnt believe it, and i was so sure it would be ok, and then i get that big news...
And also, sorry to ask so much, but can they do a scan or something to tell me after this is over with, to see if my tube is damaged? I wish my doctor would tell me a little bit more about it.

im sorry =(
How do you know if you have something causeing it? I had an u/s done back in june due to having pain and bleeding for 2 months straight, and they didnt find no cyst or anything wrong... but then when i got pregnant in october, was told i had 3 cyst and an ectopic? So could the cyst have been starting back in june they just didnt see it? and thats why it caused an ectopic pregnancy?

It will dwpend on damage and what happened exactly.. cysys are a big reason they block and slow things down making it more likely to have an ectopic. They removed my ovary and tube due to damage and the size of my cysts. Get in to the doctor try to find a cause and hopefully you wont have any more problems

Sorry for the late reply.
There is a few things that can put you at more risk of having a Ectopic pregnancy. This link might help - www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Ectopic-pregnancy/Pages/Causes.aspx

But in my case and a lot of other womens it is just something that happens   horrible as it sounds, it's true.
They can check if your tubes are damaged, they never did this with me! They was going to but I never heard anything back and before I could sort it out myself I found out I was pregnant again. They put dye through your tubes on xray it and they can see the damaged tube. This is called a hysterosalpingogram, I highly recommend googling it and researching more. Also doctor said they can see the tubes on a normal internal scan (which they do in very early pregnancy to get a better picture) but this isn't in much detail and they really can't see if it is damaged badly. Also they can do a Laparoscopy which is putting a camera inside you to check the tubes, but this is VERY rarely done. Ask your doctor all these questions too as he/she may be able to explain it better! Don't feel like your bothering them, or anything. Write all your questions down on paper for when you next see them to ask, and if they can't give you the answers ask to be referred to someone who knows. The doctor should of explained everything to you about this, if I was you I'd put in a complaint about it. If they don't know much about Ectopics then they should of given you another doctor! Sorry for the long post, but I hope this has answered your questions. Also I live in the UK so it might be different where you are living. You can have my email or facebook if you wanted to chat about it more as I rarely go on this. Good luck again
