re: single moms how do you do it?

posted 1st Dec
Childcare assistance is MUCH different than public health assistance. The amount of money you can make is much higher, especially if your a single mom.

My rent is the cheapest I can go   and I don't qualify for any assistance at all

how do you know you don't qualify? Do you mind me asking how much you make? Cause unless your making a smurf ton (and I assume your not cause your stressed about finances) Then you should be able to get a daycare scholarship because your a single mom

Oh okay...

IDK, you just make it work. School/education is the key to getting out of the situation you're in...well, it has been for me.

I didn't qualify either. For anything. I made lots at work, but DD's daycare was costing me anywhere from $1100 to $1500 a month alone.

this. My daycare went from 1200 a month to 272. I didn't qualify for any other assistance at all, but had daycare covered at all times

Let me please clarify. I do not qualify for ANY assistance. Trust me, if I did I would accept it. Please don't tell me assistance is out there bc I don't qualify for any. I have tried. I have the lowest rent I can go, a low car payment and insurance, lights, food, gas and student loans which I already hàd a hard ship deferment. I lowered everything I can. I have no help and work nights nd if I go to days I lose $240 a month or more.

I need to hear how you did it WITHOUT help please. Not to be rude but that is what I am asking. Nit if you lived with your mom or your mom watched your baby for free or if the govt helped you. Thanks

Then to be honest, it isn't possible. If you switch to days and make less money, would you then qualify for assistance? If you have noone to watch your kid, and can't make ends meet with cutting everything down as much as possible, then something else needs to change.

I should've mentioned that. I was 18 at the time and had barely graduated high school a year earlier and they had a daycare were I was helping through out my pregnancy and used to donate a lot of stuff to so they allowed me to take my child to their day care while I worked. I started counceling and speaking to young girls who got pregnant and/or were parents. It allowed me to have my child around and was getting about 150 per session and I made like 7-8 sessions a week. Then I worked with the other councelors to start my own day care business. My parents put up all the money so I could build the day care and pass all the city requirements to run a daycare and it's been pretty succesful since then.

I told you how I did it. I literally only paid for rent and daycare and electricity and a few groceries. That's it. I NEVER ate out. Never had fun. Never bought clothes unless I needed them, and I got them at goodwill. I eventually got a nanny and went from paying $1500 for daycare to $720, which helped a ton, obviously. I don't even have any friends in this state, and my parents live in MI. So I did it ALL by myself, 24/7.

How can I find info on that? I work 40 hours a week.

My state is poor. How do I find out if I qualify?

Good advice.

Maybe you should find a different job OP...if thats possible.

If you make 35 or so a year she is right, she would not qualify. My hubby makes slightly more than that and were told we definitely could not get child care assistance. I told you how we've done it without help. We buy groceries on sale, buy lots of stuff used. Do you live in a very expensive area? Just curious because we live fairly comfortably at a comparable income here. Although I guess we only pay for part time daycare
