Oh no, I agree. I don't keep weed anywhere near anything my daughter could get into. I don't want to take a chance she'll eat it. She's 7 months.

And yes, I'm speaking from personal experience. My mom was VERY strict about weed and alcohol when I was a younger teen and it just made me want to try it more, but of course I had to hide it. So I ended up getting arrested a few times, luckily I was never charged, because I didn't feel I could be open with my mom about it. Granted, the choices I made were my own, but if I wasn't so afraid of her, I wouldn't have ever went out and smoked all night in cars and found random places to crash.

My mom's a lot more understanding now that she knows I'm responsible. She knows SO and I smoke and occasionally drink, but she also knows I'd NEVER put anything above my daughter's needs or her well-being. And ever since things have been smooth.

My daughter will know that I smoke, and that she is allowed to also experiment as long as:
She's putting her school work FIRST.
She's responsible about it.
She's honest with me.
She's not hanging out with the wrong people.
She's not doing any "hard" drugs.
She's not selling any drugs.


She will also know that if she gets caught with anything, and she ends up being charged, she will stay in jail until her court date. I will not spend hundreds of dollars on bail when she knows damn well she can have weed and a few friends at my house to smoke.

Wait, weed/smoke can cause allergic reactions? I didn't know this. So if SO has a puff then holds LO he could get a reaction from it?
Great. I'm literally the ONLY one in the family that doesn't smoke. On both sides. That sucks

Also, I've wondered how to deal with this... I don't smoke, haven't for years, but SO and every member of both our families all do.. I don't want my son to get into drugs, but it's just assumed that he will eventually because of the families doing it. They smoke around the other kids in the family, which I smurfing hate and I've banned them all from smoking in my house (the used to just light up in the lounge). I dunno how I'll deal with the whole smoking issue when he gets older. my first instict is to forbid him from doing it but that'll just make smurf worse

You can tell him not to and make him afraid, but if he wants to he will.
IMO, the best thing to do is to educate them, and set ground rules. If you don't want weed/alcohol in your house, make it clear. But don't make him so afraid of your reaction that he feels he needs to get into a car with a drunk friend so you don't catch him drinking.

I was afraid of my mom, and it ended up getting me in heaps of trouble. I'm surprised I lived through it all, honestly   I've had so many friends die as teenagers from dumb smurf, it's sickening.

Idk, I don't mind weed per se, but I wouldn't want my kids smoking it.. I've seen too many people smurf their entire lives up and end up on meth (including my mother) to be okay with drugs of any kind. I'm not saying weed leads to meth, but it's coloured my opinions of drugs as a whole. Maybe i'll feel differently before it becomes an issue, but if he's smoking weed at 13/14 like some of the people in SO's family I dunno what I'll do.

I mean, all of my friends that OD'd or got into hard drugs had hardass parents. It's almost a rebelling thing. Ijust want my child to always be honest with me and for her to not feel afraid at all.

I'm not looking forward to having a teenage girl at all. My main fear is that she'll get pregnant. She'll be provided birth control, but accidents happen.  


Drugs, I'm not worried about. I've done A LOT of different drugs, and SO's done pretty much every kind of drug besides meth.
Whether she came home from smoking weed, trippin' balls, shooting heroin, we'd know.
She's screwed if she wants to hide things from us

Mostly it is not the second hand smoke that can cause that but the actual fresh weed, like in the bag. PM me if you wan to know more.

Ha that's the upside to it, I've lived with people who were E fiends, taking like 10 pills a day, I've lived with pot heads, speed freaks and my mother was into meth. So he'll have to be a pretty damn good actor to get any of that smurf past me.
Oh god, I live in fear of having a girl and worrying about the teenage pregnancy bit. I know what I got up to as a teen, so I'd be terrified of what my daughter would get up to   Glad I have a son for now lol. But he could still come home saying "Mum, my girlfriends pregnant" at 16. I'd probably rip my hair out lol

I feel like growing up in CA it has been medicaly OK for so long... since like the early 90's that it is almost less cool to try. KWIM? Since it is not really something most parents or cops care about not a lot of kids do either.

Like it is so easy to get an Rx for it and then use it when you want to or need to with out any sneaking around. Or worries about getting in trouble. If you get pulled over and you have pot on you the first thing the police will ask is if you have a Rx for the drugs and then you have to show it to them and they will say OK and forget about it.
Have you ever seen the TV show Wild Justice? That is my area it is filmed in. Having it be less taboo makes kids want it less IMO

Yeah, the good thing about it is we can tell her personal experience with hard drugs. I'm just hoping she'll never do anything besides smoke weed, and possibly drink or try psychedelics a few times.
But, if she doesn't do anything, that's wonderful too

You know what makes me SO SO SO mad?! well I am going to tell you. When I was in school(I hope it has changed) they told us all about drugs and how they are all so very bad! I listened and figured that weed, PCP, and Meth were all about the same. Why because that is what they taught us. They sure talked about PCP a lot! That was all the info I had on drugs was what the school told me. My family did not know about drugs because they had never tried them, seen them or knew anything about them. So they figured I would learn in school.(they could not look it up on line back then... no computer in the house)

Any way then back in 92 I tried some weed, thinking I was going to freak out, like how they told us weed and PCP would make us. But guess what, I did not feel much at all. I mean I just felt relaxed.

So guess what... it was not long later...maybe a week that I did meth for the first time. Why? Because I figured that everything my school told me was totally lies! Since weed didn't do anything to me, what could Meth really do right?

And that is what makes me REALLY REALLY MAD. Is schools lying to kids. Now I don't know if they has stopped lying since the early 90's but I am going to make sure my kid knows that Pot and Meth are not the same at all!

Do they still teach this way? If so how do you feel about the methods?
