Advice for a young mom? :)

posted 1st Dec
Hi, I'm Brooke, Im 18 and 18 weeks pregnant. I know my situation is probably not neaarly as dificult as alot of the young moms on here but I still need advice from those of you who know what Im going through. Anyways, Im with the father of my baby and have been for 3 years. He is very supportive and so is my entire family and his. I graduated highschool already so that isnt a problem. My boyfriend has a pretty good job but in the area we live in rent is EXTREMELY high and we are living with my in laws and paying them rent to save money but they want us to move out before the baby comes. I am not working right now because I got fired from my previous job when It became obvious I was pregnant and my boss made a very stupid excuse for firing me because they technically cant fire me for being pregnant. Im trying to find a job but no one wants to hire someone who is pregnant apparently because I have great references and had no problem finding work until now. With out a job I dont think we can afford rent in the area we live in. On top of that the only doctor in the area that is acccepting new patients is horrible and he hasnt given me any tests or anything unless \I do my own research and preasure him to give me the tests and stuff I want. He refused to do a pelvic exam even though I seen a different doctor who is too far away to see regularly and she recomend I have one done at the begining of my pregnancy... Anyways anyone have any advice for me??

When I couldn't find a job when I was pregnant, I went back to school. Student loans help pay for rent and food.
As for your doctor not wanting to do a pelvic exam.. it's not required. Some people don't even get checked until after they have gone into labor.

You can apply for income based housing. Look for a decent one. Or try for HUD or habitat house. It is not the best but it is a temp roof over your head. IDK what to tell you about the doctor except find a different one fast.
Good Luck mama.

Im sure theres some job that will hire you. You dont have to tell your employer your preg and they dont have the right to ask. Just wear loose fitting clothing on your interviews at 18 weeks you shouldnt be huge. I was hired for my position at 33 weeks. Dont give up..I know it can be frustrating but im sure theres someone whos willing to give you a chance.

I was already planning on going to college ASAP. I have already applied for the fall semester but its too late to apply for the next semester starting in January and the baby will be here in April. As far as the doctor not doing a pelvic exam he also wouldnt do any blood tests, listen to babies heart beat, send me for an ultrasound or even weigh me until I actually convinced him. And when I say convinced I mean he tried to tell me every test was unnecissary...

Your OB should be checking for heartbeat at every appt from approx 2 weeks on. Pelvic exams are not done routinely...ive only had 3 exams my whole preg. He should schedule you for an ultrasound at some point just to make sure baby is growing properly any is anatomically ok.

Where I live we have a shortage of doctors so I cant see an OB until Im 30 weeks unless Im a high risk pregnancy which im not. That also explains why I cant see a different doctor. I have been in constant contact with my old family doctor over the phone, who is 8 houirs away, and she has been telling me all the tests I should be having done and every time I see him he basically says she is wrong but she went to school for an OB but is working as a family doctor so I trust what she says... Its just so frustrating...

That bull crap that they think you shouldnt be seen for 12 more weeks. at this point in your preg you should be seen every 4-6 weeks.

Here we have to see a family doctor once a month until 30 weeks which would be ok if my doctor wasnt so stupid..
