My ex-midwife did, but she is super super old school - like, she delivered my brother almost 25 years ago, delivered me and all my siblings, and was still in business when I was pregnant with my son. I think she was a little outdated, to be honest.

Oh, I didn't see that. Hopefully she doesn't get the smurfs and nothing bad happens.

I don't think you should take anymore if you are already in labor. Just wait it out now.

Yeah. Labor's tough enough without adding a volcano coming out of your ass at the same time.

A lot of doctors recommend it and they don't believe it's dangerous.


There's other things that cause the baby to poop that has been proven and it's not always castor oil. The baby's weight, if it's to large, over due. So many things.

Sometimes I think castor oil gets a bad rap. Because most moms take it after 40 weeks and chances are baby has already pooped.

but that's not always so. And that's the research I found on it when it was recommended for me to do it.

I also took it because I was in false labor for 4 days and I was exhausted. I wanted something to help it out along.

I'll never do it again, but in that situation I was exhausted and desperate and it didn't work for me anyways.

Eeeee! Castor oil will give you the smurfs :/ it worked for SIL after spending the night on the toilet.

OP- Everyones going to rip you a new smurf saying its dangerous for the baby for meconium respiration.

I never did it- but my doctor said its OK as long as its after your due date. But i dont like my butthole to burn- so i didnt do it.

But my doctor told me that its not the castor oil that caused meconium respiration- its the intense contractions tht come with it. And your just as likely to have meconium with anything that causes intense contractions- such as pitocin and many other induction drugs. And alot of women have meconium just from natural labor.


About 12% of births have meconium staining, or meconium is passed in utero.
The statistics are about equal for castor oil as is for induction drugs.

This is what a DOCTOR who went to school for over seven years old me. Not someone on the internet.

Those are the facts, and thats all i can really tell you. I never did it- so i dont know from experience.

1. i have NO clue why a doctor would tell a patient to induce by castor oil. it is dangerous and smurffing while in labor isnt fun.

2. the tea doesnt put you in labor, it helps tone and prep. but doesnt start it.
