Keeping my son in daycare.

posted 1st Dec
I'm still in high school, I only have three classes though so I get out at one in the afternoon. I'm graduating early on December 21st. At the moment my son goes to daycare until I get out of school, then I go get him. He goes to bed at 8:30-9 ish, I take a short nap and then I go to work from 11 until four in the morning (I live with my brother and he is home with my son during this time). It's horrible. I have maybe three hours of sleep a night, and then that short nap after he goes to bed. Well I had always planned to take him out of daycare when I graduated but since I started working at night, I don't know   I can't do this much longer, I'm exhausted all the time, so I was thinking I could leave him in daycare and sleep while he's there. Would this be horrible, to have him in daycare even though I'm at home during that time?

I have a friend that works at night. She doesnt put baby to bed until 10-1030, sometimes later depending on when she goes in. This way he sleeps when she sleeps in the morning.

No. Especially if his dad isn't going to watch him during the day. Would you be able to do half days at daycare to save money or anything?

i think unless you can work during those hours hes at daycare andsleep at night then you definately should keep him in daycare so you can get a little sleep you will end up sick or just too miserable to care for him when you are home if you dont get some sleep

I'm in college, but only taking one morning class. My daughter is in HeadStart from 7:30 to 2 (school). My son gets dropped off at daycare before my class at 8am. I get out at 10:30. I got home and take a nap and clean the house, do laundry or run errands and then go get him after 2 when I pick up my daughter. There is NOTHING wrong with him staying in daycare for you to rest or whatever you need to do. You can't be a happy mommy if you are miserable and tired. Besides, most kids love daycare and having socialization is VERY good for them at a young age when it comes to developing their speech and social skills.

His dad never sees him, so that isn't an option. I'm pretty good with the price it is now - I drop him off at 7:00 and go get him at 1:30. It's a family run daycare so it's not very expensive.

That sounds great, then. I think keep him in if you're working nights so you can sleep. Do you have family watching him when you're working?

Alright thanks everyone. I tried to talk to my mom about it earlier and she told me that only lazy moms put their kids in daycare when they're at home.

It's totally fine to do that. Sleep will make you a better mother, there is no need to torture yourself.

Wow how sad. It isn't any different than if you were to sleep at night and work while he was in daycare, sleep and work are both necessities, it doesn't matter which one he is at daycare for.

You need to take care of yourself too. If you don't get sleep how are you suppose to be able to function? You need to get sleep to be a good mommy and employee at your job. Your mother is ridiculous. Do what works for you, that's all that matters.
