Pitocen induced VBAC or another C-Section?

posted 1st Dec
Okay, so I'm planning on having a VBAC and labor starting naturally on its own, but a thought occurred to me-- if I HAVE to be induced, should I do pitocen or just have another C-Section? I've heard Pitocen is God-awful and really complicates labor way more than it has to, so... Would going ahead and just getting another C-Section be a better option for that, you think?

I didnt think you could be induced when trying for a vbac.

My water broke and I had to have pitocin induced contractions. The contractions were very intense, but I had my first son all natural (2nd son too but no pitocin).

Pitocin ups the chance of uterine rupture with a vbac. Many doctors won't so it. And I think it's stupid to get even the tiniest amount when trying for a vbac

Honestly I would just go with the pitocen!! That way you know you tried and if you have to have a csection it will be ok. I have heard that some doctors do not induce with vbacs but others do, so you should check on that!
I only have one child and I was induced with pitocin and I ended up having a csection after 31 hrs of labor and 2 hours of pushing. It wasn't an emergency csection, my son was just too far up and my contractions were too irregular.
I am planning on having a vbac whether or not i have to be induced i am still going to try! I want to avoid another csection at all costs but if I end up with one again after trying, I will be ok with that.... somewhat lol

Not all dr's will use pitocin with VBAC's. I was induced with pitocin (due to medical issues) for DS2's vbac. It was done by my high risk dr who happens to like a challenge anyway.   She had to do the induction very very slowly though. It was a 3 day process to make sure she didn't put too much stress on my scar. It was a pretty easy labor and delivery though. By far my best labor experience to date actually.

I was already 2 to 3 cm's dilated when i went in. The first night, they started with a very low dose of pitocin. It was just enough to make me slightly uncomfortable. The next morning (day 2), they cranked up the pitocin so i was having actual contractions and gradually increased it periodically throughout the day. That night around 10pm, they shut off the pitocin and let my body rest.

The next morning (day 3), they broke my water and started the pitocin up full strength around 10am. I had him by 1pm. Pushing was a piece of cake.

I think it depends on the doctor and why you had a c-section in the first place. I've known women who have had induced VBAC's, but I haven't talked to my doctor about it yet. This thought literally just occurred to me. Lol.

If it were me I would need more information. I would have to talk to the doctor about the risks of an induction vs. repeat c-section. Would depend on why there was a c-section in the first place, how long it had been since the c-section. Lots of factors. Assuming everything was in order I would probably try the vbac.

The most risky option is an emergency c-section.
Then a planned c-section
and then a vbac with pitocin
Then regular vbac

^according to my MFM dr. She's also got OB super powers, so that might have something to do with it lol. She's one of the best. My pregnancies are ..complicated.

Yeah. It will have been 4 and a half years since my VBAC and the only reason I had a C-Section was because my son had IUGR and I had Pre-E and very high BP, so my doctor didn't want to risk my BP going up and believed DS to be too small to handle the birthcanal. Nothing to do with my body being in labor itself, really.

You can't be induced if you're trying to have a VBAC. I'm n the same boat as you, explored all my options and the dr thinks a planned c-section is what's best.

Yes you can... seriously do your research people! Look at statistics in your state and your hospital. Pitocin only increases the risk of a uterine rupture by a SMALL percent. It depends on your doctor if they want to take that chance or not. You need to ask your doctor.
