My friend had her baby at 24w via emergency c-section. This was back in June, baby came home in September and is doing very well. She was 15oz at birth and is now I think 8 lbs.

Congrats to you, I hope everything is alright!

Sometimes they have no choice. My friend had to choose to have a c-section or risk dying and her baby dying. Makes the decision a lot easier. She had pre-eclampsia and her placenta was not working.

Congrats on the new baby and hope all works out. I have no advice for raising a preemie though and I hope I never will..... I'd be too scared to handle such a small baby lol.

My son was born at 25w 4d gestation. The best advice i can give while you are in teh NICU is ask a lot of questions and if you don't understand something ask for an explanation. Be the best advocate you can be for your son. Also from my experience the nurses tend to be more knowledgible about day to day things than the doctors and if they can't answer for you then they will get an attending to talk to you. My son receives weekly occupational therapy sessions but has no development delays at all and no residual health problems. Once you bring him home be weary of taking him around others even family members because preemies are more susceptible to illness other than that we treat our son like a normal baby.

i was also sectioned at 25weeks with a classical incision. He was coming and they broke my water and his cord prolapsed so i had a nurse's hand up my wa-hoo holding him up off his cord until they could knock me out and get to him through the incision.

I was fully dilated yesterday which is why I had to have an emergency c section.

my preemie son was my fourth child. but he is our only preemie. he was born at 33weeks. 3lbs and 9 ounces.16" long. preemies may be tiny but they're very strong. the first time I got to change his diaper, I was so scared to touch him, I promise you will not break him lol. it does get easier as they grow. ask lots of questions, and remember that you're the mom your instincts are normally always right. hold and cuddle and feed your baby is often as you can. remember to take care of yourself because if you're not feeling well you cant possibly take care of your baby. NICU is a roller coaster journey.. there will be good and bad days. best of luck to you and baby

my sons Nicu was 45 minutes from the hospital he was delivered. I had HELLP syndrome. I saw my baby for about 10 minutes, then he was transferred. I didn't see him again for 2 days until I got out of the hospital the staff also told me that Dominick would have to stay in hospital until my due date. I was very afraid it is a very un natural feeling to leave the hospital without your baby. I cried a lot those weeks. I had a daycare to run ,3 school aged daughters to take care of also. only got to see my baby for about 2 hours every night. it's not an easy thing to do but your much stronger than you think.you will get through it. Dominick spent 10 days in the NICU and 10 more days in a step down unit he came home at 4 pounds 1 ounce. 1 month and 4 days before my due date. hang in there

Thank you and I will hang in there... My little man is fighting so I should be strong for him... The nurse said that he was doing just fine and that he is progressing well. I thakn God that he is watching over my baby boy.

Don't be scared, you won't break him   I wasn't allowed to hold my son for the first 2 weeks of his life and then they were changing his isolete so I asked to hold him for that. At first they were like "no". Then I went to the charge nurse and asked because since he had to be out of the isolete to change it, why wouldn't i be able to hold him for the transition? I would rather hold my baby than have a nurse do it. She said "you're right" and made the nurse changing the isolete let me hold him. i got to hold him for a total of 30minutes!! It was the best 30minutes of my life, then he was getting cold so they put him back. Trust me in no time you will be a pro at handling him through and around all the tubes and wires. And there have been studies that show that preemies whose parents are active in their care and make daily visits with them do better than preemies whose parents are less active. Jump in! Also have you looked into Ronald McDonald house? We stayed at one for almost the entire hospital stay--he was in the NICU for 80 days, came home 21 days before his due date.
