The sex talk...

Do you think you would approach the talk differently if you have the opposite sex of your child. What measures will you go to try to prevent your child from having children young?

I have two boys, I plan on letting them know they can talk to me about anything and everything, even if it's pretty "out there." I also plan on having a stock pile of condoms in their bathroom, I know that seems like I'm condoning them to have sex in a way, but if they're going to have sex, I would rather know that I gave them every opportunity to protect themselves. I will also make sure they're educated and the most important one...do not fall for the "I'm on birth control" because birth control fails.

DS is my oldest. When the time comes I'm sure DH will be helping me with the talk. But we have a very open mother/son relationship, hopefully he'll know he can come to me. Though I'm sure he'll prefer talking it all over with DH without me there.

I think I would. But I can't be completely sure, because I have 3 girls. I've already explained their reproductive systems, how they work. When they get a little bit older we will have to go more in depth with sex and protection. For now though, they still think most boys are icky.

I agree to keep condoms available to them. I can't imagine how many boys don't use them for fear of being seen buying them. And I don't feel it's condoning it. They're gonna do it If they choose protected or not.

How old are they?

Any sex talk is better than none. NEITHER of my parents talked about sex with me. I got my sex education from the school bus. I feel a lot would be different if i had been talked to by them instead. I think making condoms available is good parenting. After my mom found out i was having sex when i was 16, i asked her to put me on BC, and she refused, said she would not encourage me having sex.

We've discussed some stuff with our 4 year old, nothing too detailed of course, but age appropriate. We'll also discuss things with our son (he's not even 2 yet.)

I found out about sex through school kids and when my mom found out I was having sex at 16 I asked for bc and my dr suggested it due to my periods being so bad and she refused I was like what ever regardless I'm gonna f*** if I feel like it :/

When my dad found out about her doing that, he flipped smurf on her and IMMEDIATELY took me to get on the pill. He was so PISSED at her.

I can't see how a parent can refuse to get their child some form of birth control. That's like saying, hey I don't agree with you having sex at all so I'm not allowing it, but you're going to do what you want to do so be unprotected.

I'm very lucky that I'm the youngest. My brother always had condoms hidden in his room in a little lunchbox under his bed, my sister, that's a different story, she had sex with anyone and everyone and she didn't protect herself at all, ended up pregnant at 16, dropped out of school, ect. My mom was harder on me, I didn't loose my virginity until I was 15, I told her I wanted pills and she agreed and my dad took me to get them.

My daughter is 11. I havent had the talk with her yet. I will tell her "here let mom show the stretch marks on her fatass and stomach" thats what will happen if you have sex. So keep your legs closed go to school and become something. hehehe

I can't believe she refused, seeing as my brother got his now wife pregnant at 17 and dropped out of HS. Boggled my mind.

Out of my mom's three kids, my sister dropped out after being in 9th grade twice, my brother is in the army, and I'm going to college.

My sister has told my 8 year old niece in detail about full sexual intercourse and I don't agree with that, but hell she's also told her when she turns 16 she can drop out of school if she wants too. She has already done the 1st and 2nd grade twice, because my sister lacks some "parenting" skills if you will say.
