Quoting Mann Makin' Mama[BBM]:" I can't see how a parent can refuse to get their child some form of birth control. That's like saying, ... [snip!] ... on me, I didn't loose my virginity until I was 15, I told her I wanted pills and she agreed and my dad took me to get them."

My mother refused to get me birth control, or to ALLOW me to go and get FREE b.c. from a clinic.

She said, "It's like me saying it's okay."

I got pregnant two days before I turned 18. But we did use condoms, I just couldn't get B.C. without her consent, because I was 17.

My parents thought I was a 24 year old virgin until I popped up pregnant -- never talked about sex and referred to non-virgins as whores. Obviously I am going to have more realistic expectations and try to maintain an open line of communication but as for the specifics, I have no clue.

Are you kidding me??? WOW!!! Hell NO I threatened my 18 year old. I told him he better get his diploma! I was 16 when I had him and I will be damned if my kids follow in my footsteps. Of course my son is Gay so that was pretty easy HAHA!! ..My 11 year old is very sensitive and kind of immature for her age. Her dad tries to keep her in a bubble. When I have her I talk to her about life in General. She happens to still like school thank goodness!

SO told me he's scared Chelsea will get pregnant young, so he wouldn't mind her being a lesbian since he'd have less to worry about lol

I'm sure DH will do most of the talking when the time comes for DS to be talked to.

I definitely think its smart to put condoms SOMEWHERE they know where its at IF they need them. I can imagine the awkward moment of it but, at least you're doing what you can. You won't be there when it happens (hopefully! Lol) Not educating your kids about sex and acting like it doesn't exist doesn't condone abstinence just like providing condoms won't push them into a life of pimps, ho's, and whore houses.

Good idea bout the condom supply. Idk how we'll broach that subject. I think about it often. I was 18 n had to ask a friend about sex. I lost my virginity at 19. I did take "health" n even parenting class in hs but that was all clinical terms. No one knows it better than someone w experience. It was never discussed appropriately in our house. Older step bro was knocking a chick up n my mom (his stepmom) did a somersault off the couch, but when I asked my own mom about having sex and wanting BC she told me no way in hell. I will do it differently w my kids I just don't know how yet.

I'm being oh so serious. My grandmother (her great grandmother) has also caught her "hunching" the pillows a few times.

I'm going to be the same way with my boys and their education, that's the only thing no one can take from them.

My husband and I have already had this discussion.

We have a son and a daughter. When they get to be about age 12 (or when they begin to hit puberty) we will sit down and have "the talk".

There will be condoms in the house at all times. There will be no questions asked. I dont care if they go through a crap ton of them. (They will also be available for friends.)

With my daughter, I plan on being completely open. I will tell her that if at any time she comes to me and says she wants birth control, I will not ask any questions or pry into her life. I dont care if she is 13! I will immediately take her and place her on birth control!

But they will also know that if they have any questions, concerns, etc, that we are always willing to answer them!

If people are waiting till 11 and 12 to have the talk it's already too late. Kids are in middle school by then, and already know what sex is :-P. It's best to start early with an open relationship in which they ask questions. But by around age 9 it's time for a frank discussion.

Also this. We had the sex talk in school in 5th grade.

That's crappy. Here anyone under 18 can go to the health dept and get bc. They actually don't allow parents to go. The girl has to go in and get it herself.

Yep. I had "sexual education" in 5th grade. The class was full of laughs and giggles when they put a naked man and woman on the projector.
