Personal information being sold to advertisers?

I saw this on another members profile:

"This site sells its member's information to other websites, and those companies spam your email and your posts are logged on many other websites. "



Is this true?

i hope not! id be pissed

I doubt it. I don't get a lot of spam.

I get tons of spam to my personal email, it just goes into my spam folder.

I'd like to hope that my personal information wasn't being used in a grossly in appropriate manner, without my permission. But, I suspect this is also a fairly common thing, not limited to this site.

It depends on what info is being given as to how I feel about this.

Well the website does collect information from your browser I don't know whether that's sold or not but because of it you have ads that match your information. This can be prevented you can the policy is not very long so you can read it fairly quickly.

Yes, that is what I was referring to when I sourced facebook.

Well a lot of websites do this Facebook, MySpace, dating sites, etc.
However I don't think It accounts for the spam. As for post anything you post online you are responsible for.

I realise this, that's why I mentioned it as being fairly common. I too don't think it results in Spam and I am aware that I am responsible for anything I post on-line. I was just curious as to if any one else was aware of what the post might be referring to beyond the dissemination of information as outlined in the privacy clause of the T&C.
