New here, period problems.

posted 30th Nov
Hey everyone   My name is Leah and I am new here. Not expecting, just got married and here for some information.

Now for my irregular period rant...
First off, I have seen a gynecologist about this and was told it was normal, but it doesn't seem like it...
I have been on my period for a little over a month now. I am 20 and have always been extremely irregular. I would get my period for 2 weeks sometimes and then it wouldn't show up again for another 2 months. I was on the pill (LoEstrin Fe) from August off 2007 until October of 2010 continuously and I never had a period that entire time which is normal. But, now that I have been off the pill for a while now I figured I'd get back to somewhat of a normal cycle, my flow is extremely light and brown some days and heavy and red on others. It is just annoying, has anyone else experienced anything like this? And if so what did your gynecologist say? Thanks in advance!

Not me personally, but I know a few friends that are really irregular. Birth control usually helps, maybe try a different kind.

I do not have that issue but it definitely doesnt sound normal. I would trust your gut and either push to your gyno that something isnt right ro get a 2nd opinion. Good luck

I havent ever used that bc or heard of it, but I thought with any pill you should still have a monthly period. the only time I didn't was when I was EBF and not on bc... but no, that doesnt sound normal to me. I'd be freaked too... bc kept me regular.. I'm not on anything now so i keep a calender. mine have been getting shorter and shorter apart lately...

Thanks for the replies ladies!

I don't want to be on any birth control right now, I wanted to give my body a break because the no period thing freaked me out. I'm definitely making an appointment with a new doctor my mom found, my old one was kind of weird. When I would go for appointments I was in and out in 5 minutes She never really checked me and stopped doing pap smears, she told me she would only be doing them when necessary? Made no sense to me and my mom.

How long have you been off your bc? Sometimes it can take up to a year to regulate your periods after being on bc for a long time. I was on seasonique in hs for 3 years and once I got off it took literally an entire year for my periods to be normal again

Eta and then once it got normal again I got pregnant and haven't had a period in 2 years lol

I made the mistake of getting the depo shot about 2 years ago. I got it because my periods were awful! I was told it would stop them completely, but that was not the case. I bled from the day I got the shot, to about 3 months after that. I got on the patch to regulate my periods back to normal (after the shot wore off). You will get 3 per pack. Change them once a week for 3 weeks & on the 4th week your period will start. I stopped using them because the patch broke me out in a rash after a while. But they did regulate my periods.

I've been off it about 2 years now. So I'm hoping this new doctor will be of some help. Damn, it must be nice to not have your period for that long without worry lol.
