Well if you're happy with it then do it. It seems pretty 50/50 with people liking and disliking it.

I would feel honored if my brother named his daughter after me. I think it might be a little confusing, but I am sure the family find a way distinguish the two. Whats the name???

To me that's exactly why it seems childish... It comes off as, "well I liked the ne first so I have dibbs"

I would find it weird if my brother named his daughter the same name as me, but it wasn't BECAUSE of me it was DESPITE me. It just seems weird to me that's all. I'm not trying to offend you, I don't know you at all so I have no idea how you think about it but I'm just giving my first impression of the situation.

I completely agree, IF they were naming the baby after her, but they aren't they are just using the same name lol... At least that's how I understood it.

I don't know if I would do it considering how close of a relation she is, but I don't see a problem with it, especially if others aren't upset by it. DS is named after DH and my FIL and this baby will be named after my grandfather and both names are quite common in our families.

Amanda but she'll probably go by a nickname, the middle name, or we would call her "little" Amanda. That's how they distinguish my SO's mom and cousin

Oh well I'm obviously biased. In that case go ahead and name her Amanda! Lol

But really, if you like it that much do it. She's your kid.

Exactly! I wouldn't worry about it if your heart is set on it....unless you think she will be upset about it. Maybe ask her straight up if it was ok with her?!? I personally don't know why she would have a problem with it, but than again...some people are like that.

I didn't take it that she was doing it just because she had dibs. SO and I have 2 first and middle girl name pairs that we are dead set on and if any of my family members used them first I woulldnt want to have to change the nmes we want bcause of that.
Sounds to me like she's using it because it's a name she loves.

I personally wouldn't. I just don't like Jrs or naming a child after someone. I think every child deserves their own name/identity. Really tho your child your choice do what you want.

Do you think nobody else has your name?
She's not naming her after her. She liked the name already.
I don't understand how the girl won't have her own identity...

I agree, I chose it because I always loved the name and wanted to use it someday.   I don't see it as her not having an identity, there's plenty of people in the world with the same name. Especially one that's fairly common like amanda.
