No. It is not. It's the original and proper way to spell it for a boy. It's welsh.

Rhys...which is pronounced like Reece/Reese.

I'm really surprised so many people pronounced it properly. It's a Portuguese surname (my mother's) and as my grandfather passed if I have a girl I want her middle name to honor him and I thought I would spell it Reese because I didn't think people would say it properly but my dad said it would defeat the purpose.

Reese. My son's middle name is Rhys, which is pronounced Reese/Reece.
