DH vent.

He works hard for us 10 on and 4 off, and I love him, but I don't think asking for 1 day at the end of his run to spend time with his girls is asking too much.
But the minute his father calls him, he's out the door. Like today, he left at 7am, before the girls were awake, and won't be home til after 10 when they're already asleep. It'll be like this all weekend. God forbid he spends some damn time with his children or wife.

Yes. This exactly is what my husband likes to do..

My husband and I work opposite shifts and see each other only on Saturdays and Sundays. He loves, loves, loves to fish so he goes out almost every weekend to fish. Sometimes I just tell him I really don't want him to go because we haven't gotten to spend any time together and he usually will stay home. I'm just glad that he's ditching me to go out on a boat with a bunch of old guys instead of ditching me to go out to a bar or something.

Have you tried just telling him to stay home because you miss him?

Yes. He says his dad is getting old.... and so on.
He doesn't understand that while his dad is getting older, his girls are growing up. I've tried telling him, but to no avail.

Nope. Him and FIL go out to a farm a couple hours away. Just them.
