early miscarriage
posted 30th Nov
I had a miscarriage at almost 14 weeks, 13 years ago valentine's day so I don't remember everything. First of all, if you had an early miscarriage, what was it like? With my first it was tons of blood, like we literally had to throw away our couch. I bled very heavily for days after that. When I passed the fetus it was also pretty obvious. This time I haven't passed anything but huge clots, obviously at 5-6 weeks the embryo is nothing comparable. I bled pretty heavily this time for a few days but now it seems to be dying down. Forgive me if this sounds incredibly stupid, but for some reason I was expecting the same kind of thing that happened with the first. Like I would KNOW when I was passing it. But, I don't, and haven't. Also, when can I start wearing tampons and having sex again? And do I limit lifting? The ER dr told me not to lift anything over 10 pounds for 6 weeks, but um, in my life that's not really feasible, and it sounded like a bizarre restriction for a miscarriage. And, about how long will I bleed?

My first was very light. Not a lot of bleeding or cramping, and no clots. But I had also had the Mirena for 2 years and not had a period the whole time. I got pregnant immediately after having it removed, so there was really nothing fore the baby to stick to.
The second, lots of blood and clots. Bad cramping. I was a wreck. I still am shaken up about it, and it was 2 months ago.

*hugs* I am so sorry for your loss
I have lots of clots and severe cramping, but absolutely nothing like my first.

I wouldn't wear tampons at all, not until your next period. I'd wait about a week after you bleeding ends before having sex again. I've never heard the weight limitation. If you body is used to lifting it, just do it. Bleeding can vary. My chemical induced M/C (tubal) I bleed for about 3 1/2 weeks. My second I had a D&C, I bled for about 2 weeks.

I had very heavy bleeding. I was filling up a pad in thirty minutes. The cramping wasn't severe, though... it "felt" like a period, minus the massive amount of blood. After the big "clot" (embryo) passed, the cramping subsided and I continued to bleed for about eight days.

i bled like hell and incontinence pads werent good enough, i had to sleep in what was almost an adult diaper, but the bleeding didnt last long. also i had a whole bunch of puppy pads around and i kept them on the couch and chairs till my body went back to normal, so i managed to not destroy anything but some clothes. emotionally, well im 9 months pregnant 11 months later and im still not over it. wont be till i hold her i think.

I used adult diapers too, it was so nasty.

When I had a sonogram last Friday they didn't see anything, not even a sac
So I guess that could be the difference? Last week they said they thought it was either an etopic or I was way too early.

yeah I didn't have time for anything, I was asleep on the couch when I started bleeding, an entire couch had to be thrown away So should I be on the look out for more heavy bleeding? I just don't know if this little blood is normal. I mean, I was bleeding pretty heavily for a few days, but nothing like what I'd have thought. I was supposed to see my midwife today but it was cancelled. Should I go in to have a sonogram to make sure everything has passed? Last Friday there wasn't anything seen in my uterus.

This is probably the wrong thing to do, but I never had an ultrasound to see if everything had passed. I was (for some stupid reason) ashamed that I miscarried. I'm lucky I didn't end up with an infection.

First, sorry for your loss. I miscarried at 6 weeks naturally. I wiped and spotted and immediately knew I was miscarrying. I wanted to wait it out and just do it at home but my husband insisted we go to the ER. Long story short I wasn't cramping until about 5 hours after I started to bleed. I bled quite a bit and had the worst period like cramps in my life! I think the worst cramping was right when I passed a huge clot that I just knew was the baby.
If you bleed through a pad or more an hour or develop a fever go be seen. And don't use tampons. Try to take it easy I was yelled at by my EN mother for doing housework during mine. And I definitely would have sex for a week or two.

With my first I didn't need a D&C, everything passed normally just fine. I guess I will schedule an ultrasound just to make sure. *hugs* I am sorry you went through that

I have passed several huge clumps of clots, and several bits of tissue, possibly lining, idk. But I have been taking it easy, I had a huge RA flare up on Thanksgiving, so with that stacked on this, I haven't been able to do much of anything.

Im so sorry for your loss :-( with my first (at 6w1d) it was like a normal period, just a couple of days longer with some clots... With my second (at 9w3d) I started passing clots for a couple of days with a bit of cramping, but on the third day I had severe cramping (like contractions) for a couple of hours then passed what I think was the baby and immediately the cramping stopped. I continued to bleed for about a week after that like a normal period.
As for sex, lifting things, tampons etc... It is best to wait a few days after the bleeding has stopped to have sex and also lift things to minimize the risk of infection or doing any damage by straining. Also wait until your next period before using tampons. You cycle may be a little off as well, so you may get your period a bit later or earlier than usual.
