weighted blankets (SPD)

my son has some SPD-like issues from his traumatic birth, including the fear, i think of sleeping on his own. i honestly dont know where/how he got this one because even when he was in the hospital we never left him once he got to the moderate care floor, and on the PCTU floor the ratio of nurses to baby was 1:1 so his needs were never not met.

anyway.. i want to *try* to get him comfortable sleeping on his own and looked up weighted blankets.. theyre supposed to be great for spd and autistic kids.. anyone have one? im making him one for christmas out of minky and flannel. i got 4lbs of poly pellets (10% body weight +1lb)...

yeah they are like super expensive online. i found some on etsy, but they were still like 100-150. you can get the pellets off of ebay tho, i got 4lbs (i need 3.5lbs as hes a baby) for only 15 bucks, and the supplies cost another 30 or so, but i got what kind of fabric i wanted, you could def do it for cheaper.

that are under a 100 bucks, I just typed in weighted blankets and they all came up on the right hand side on google.

it only weighs 2.5lbs tho. therapeutic level is 10% of body weight +1lb.

I found tons of a bunch of different sites that are under 100, only ones I found that were 200 to 300 are queen size ones and those weight charts say theyre for adults

There is a Lycra bed sheet similar to SPIO. you can buy it to fit a twin, full or queen bed. It is light weight but still provides compression. They start at $25 for the twin, $30 for the full and $35 for the queen size.

It was recommended to us for my son since he does so well with the SPIO, but he has a medical inclined bed that this sheet won't work on, so I don't have any personal experience with it. But I have heard good things.

I've seen those before, but never used them with him... What do you do with them?


And do you know of any shirt brands besides SPIO that makes compression shirts/pants? LO finally grew, but don't have $300 to spend until Feb on him.

Sorry phone died while I was replying last night.

The suits are pretty versatile. Some kids go in them and push outward and enjoy the resistance, some want head in also, some don't, some of my kids just lay in them with a weighted blanket on top. A few students who hate anything confining even love them. Can't keep shoes or coats on a few but they will lay for an hour in the bag happily. We do sensory integration before we read aloud before lunch and those suits are always full. I'm working on getting 2 more

And thank you! I feel like waiting until Feb is way too long to go without, if we can find something for a smaller price it would be a really good thing. I've been trying to find a bicycle shirt for him, but can't find any in a small enough size. :/
