Public Humiliation

posted 30th Nov
Do you think there is ever a case where your child or children deserve to be publicly humiliated?

For example, a woman on my Facebook tagged her children who are 12, 14 and 16 I believe. She sarcastically congratulated her daughter on her first after school detention and her son on his 38% average in math. The other one she truly congratulated because he earned a B.

This is not as in depth as I have seen before. Remember the parents who made their kid hold up a sign saying he was a thief, or the parents who logged on to their teenagers Facebook telling the world they got caught underage drinking.

Do you believe these issues should stay private between a parent and the children?

This may work for some people, but I really do not think I could do that to my daughter or son.

I don't agree with it at all. I think it is a form of bullying.

I think it's unnecessary. Punish them & talk them them about why it's wrong and why they need to do better, but there's no need to post about it on Facebook.

I could never do that to my kids. That is a sure way to embarrass them and lower their self esteem. That is awful IMO.

I think it's deplorable. I would never ever ever insult my children like that. Jesus.

My ex SIL did this to her 12 year old daughter. She made her hold up a sign that said something along the lines of thinking it was cool to lie to her parents and to be stealing and taking all types of medication that they had in the household. Like everyday and excessive amounts. Let me tell ya, she will never do that again. She was overly embarrassed and even admitted to her parents that they did the right thing and opened up her eyes to how wrong she was.

Depends.......for the grade thing sure, depending on how exactly it was done.
But my family and my kids are raised in a very humours sarcastic environment and we do stuff like that all the time and it dont phase them. But certainly the extent of it and how your children take things is mostly important...kwim?

Maybe no one will agree with me but thats fine.

Example: I tagged my dd in a post where I congradulated her for the fact that her sister was just under her average for bowling (they bowl on leagues) her sister is only 4 yrs old. First year bowler, she has bowled for 6 years lol

But like I said depends on how your kids take things, and depends if its meant to hurt or shame them in a horrific way. Just my opinon tho. lol

I think most of these things are psychologically abusive for kids. However, I do believe shame can be used to teach children at proper times with proper judgement and love, rather than anger.

I don't agree with it all but a couple of posts need to be done cause kids don't seem to understand no other way.

For minor stuff, I don't think it's appropriate. If her daughter had done something extreme that could get her arrested/hurt/or hurt other people, I would be completely ok with it.
