monogamous vs. open

So I know a few women who are in open marriages/relationships. What are your opinions on this? What would you do if your dh/so asked you if y'all could have an open relationship/marriage? Do you think its completely wrong? Are there certain circumstances where its OK? Are you in one? Have you ever been in one? Would you try it? Thoughts opinions?

This is not based on my personal experiences. I'm just curious as to what others think about this.

If the people in the relationship are happy and communicate well, I think it's fine and dandy.

I could see it being appealing, but I don't think it's for me.

I wouldn't be okay with it...no way I am sharing my man, nor do I want to be with another man.

Honestly I would be offended if my husband asked me if we could have an open marriage.

It's not for me. I don't understand the point of getting married if you want to be with more the one person.

Is it wrong? No

Could I do it? No. If I wanted to date other people, I wouldn't have gotten into a relationship.

If BOTH people are happy and want to be open then great.

It's not for me though, and my husband doesn't want to be in one either. We talked about it cuz of a sister wives commercial.

We are in an open marriage as a step towards divorce. We can't get divorce paperwork done by the end of the year and then we both are leaving the country, so it will be a year until we can file.

Since you asked so many questions I'll answer them in order lol. If DH came to me and asked me to be in an open marriage I would be hurt. I don't understand why he would devote himself to me through marriage if he wanted to seek sexual pleasure from another person. If this was something he was passionate about and wanted and presented it like an ultimatum I would tell him I was filing for divorce. I see no point in staying married to somebody if he can't commit himself to me. What is the point in marrying ONE person if you can't find solace in just that ONE person, ya know?
Certain circumstances where it's okay? I would imagine there are circumstances where people find happiness in one, but I'm too old fashioned/ignorant to allow myself to be in one.

If I were just in a relationship, I might go for it.

But, in a marriage, I feel like there's really no point in being married if you don't plan to stay faithful to that person for the rest of your life. What's the point of your vows? What's the point of having a ceremony? I married my husband because I could see myself with him and only him for the rest of my life and he did the same.

If it works for others, then great for them! It would not work at all for my marriage.

Plus, I'm the jealous type. So I never could lol.

It works for some but don't think it would work for me.

I know a few who are and it worked great for them and not so great for others. DH suggested it at our all time low but we opted not to try it. I wasn't offended he asked or suggested it but we talked pros and cons with it. Overall, if their happy being in an open marriage then good for them!

same here. others can do what they want, i don't think it's wrong at all. it's just that I'm married to one man for a reason, so it wouldn't be something i'd take interest in at all.
