DREADY MAMAS OFFICIAL THREAD

posted 30th Nov
I wanted to start a thread for Knotty Mamas, where we can have some support, a place to share pictures, ask and answer questions and chat about our dreadlocks journey and life

There are many resources all over the internet on how to start, maintain and care for dreadlocks. I will be happy to answer any questions as well

If you know any dreadlock mamas on babygaga please share this thread

they are called Sisterlocks and are locked with a crochet pattern using the needle.
the day i got them 8-9-2010. they look like braids at install. it takes a couple of months to mature

2 or 3 months in after shrinking and starting to mature into a more dready look

my natural curl pattern coming out

my one year anniversary

ive seen a lot of white girls with my type of locs. They are designed to work most curl patterns, though if you have staight hair with no curl they wont work at all.

I don't have dreads, but I would love to have them! I think they look awesome. My brother was in town last week and I took a picture of his... he's had them about 6 years and I'm totally envious of them.

I had dreads that were about two months old and had to take them out for my job. I'm really wanting to start them up again. How did you mamas start yours? Here's a pic of my ultra newborn dreads I had.   I really liked having non dreaded bangs and hair line. Made styling them very versatile.

Hey ladies! My name's Madi and my dreads are about 4 months old. They still look like smurf.   But they're getting there!
I backcombed my roots and twist n ripped the rest. I don't do anything but wash them once a week with a baking soda and peppermint oil mix. It's awesome to walk around smelling like peppermint all the time

Anyway here are some pics:

This is the day I did them

And here are some more recent pics:
