Well the good point is that it makes us quite productive, and much easier to earn wealth outside of degrees if you want to. The bad side is it encourages a lot of selfish behavior in our country.

Oh we still have selfish people here too, still very much a capitalist country in that sense however most people can't compete when a global franchise moves in. It may not make much of a difference in large cities but we only have a handful really large cities here. I remember when Wal-mart came to our city, so many local shops closed down. I remember our city before MacDonalds or any other fast food place moved in, things sure have changed. Sure lots of jobs but not as much local success.

It does suck, but luckily, I'm leaving the country in just over a month for a year, maybe permanently.

I can totally understand the cuts, though I think it's bad timing and wont last long... But there is also the Healthy Babies and Healthy Moms program, which help moms if they really need anything for babies... As far as I know, that funding isn't going to be cut.

That runs off of something else well here it does anyways. Here its a non profit organization. But yes for moms with kids under the age of 6 years old they will help you out if needed.

I dont think it will last either. lol It is bad timing, Although there is a lot of things I disagree with about welfare. I am iffy on this one. lol

I was on it 5 years ago, back when my SO lost a job (he worked 2 jobs and lost 1, long story) when I was 40 weeks and couldn't get a job... I don't agree with them giving 2 years to moms who have had a baby, for "parental leave." THAT is something that needs to be cut. Seriously.

Ontario Works told me that I didn't need to find a job for 2 years to the date of my sons birth, and that they give extra for children until then... Though, perhaps it has been cut already. It was 4 years ago, and I was only on it for 3-4 months.

Never heard of that. lol

But on that note ontario works allows moms to stay home for 4 yrs not 2 yrs. I thought you ment paid parental leave, like others were talking earlier. lol

But every person on ow gets money for their kids. depnding on where you live like where I am, it 200 per person for food a month, and then your shelter cost. Thats it. But all of that has nothing to do with the cuts, they only cut the startup funds, to move and buy extra items you cant afford.

Now ow does pay your first baby bonus money till your baby bonus application goes through, but that it.

I was wondering what all these programs were and realised that the Quebec system is rather different. I think cuts are going to be necessary. Even here, there are deficits everywhere that sure wont fix themselves and since people are already bitching about the taxes, then its obvious some services will have to go.

We have stopped giving baby bonuses in the 1990's for a new birth. We have tax returns for children and food assistance for pregnant women in financial difficulties. The baby bonuses turned out to be negative here as the only people who were really interested in the money bonus werent people who had the money to support those children in the long run. Sad but true. I went to school with kids whose parents had children to get bonuses   And they were proud to mention it when you talked about their large families.....

I think that we just need to feel fortunate that we live in our country and get involved in volunteer and charity work if we want to help the community. Just throwing money at everyone is not a solution which i have the impression we have been using for a couple of years. There are issues that need solving at the root cause, and not just a cheque to hope that they will leave.

Here baby bonus pays up to 4 kids, after that its a default amount of 50.00 bucks. lol
I have never met anyone who had kids just to get money. I dont actually believe that ppl really do that. lol Not where I live. Here baby bonus is for every parent. My parents maid 300.000 a year and got baby bonus, they clearly didnt need it, but its something that most ppl got. kwim?

I think I jumped from 400 dollars a month (to cover my half of the rent, and food for myself, to 900 when I had my son. I was told I'd have to pay the money they cover for the baby bonus until I got it and would have to pay it back, so I never spent it and I saved it. I still have it put away, actually, but I moved out of Ontario and now live in AB. But the 2 years is what I was told when I was on it awhile ago, and they gave me 150 dollars on top of the money given to cover my child tax. Looks like it's changed a lot... We were also told that certain funds was there to help me, and to think of it more like a loan. I dunno. Maybe I just misunderstood. LOL
