Breastfeeding and cold medicine?

What do you recommend? The congestion in my nose is killing me. What's safe to take while nursing?

I always refer people to this list. It has about every kind of medication, whether it is approved or not, and the risk to mother and baby while pregnant and nursing.

ETA: I usually just take a really hot shower. The steam really helps with congestion.

I know you can take Sudafed while pregnant, so I bet you can take it while nursing.

Sudafed will dry your milk.

Try a neti pot and a hot shower. Vicks on your feet.

You can pretty much take anything. The problem is that a decongestant is made to dry up mucus so in return can hurt your supply. I never had an issue with sudafed cause my dd was a good nurser and I had a food supply. But If your baby and supply are struggling do not take it.

I really wish my Dr would have told me that... I'm wondering how many things he told me I could do while BFing were actually the factors that caused my supply to stop... Hmmm.
