In Italy the men keep their last names and the women can keep there or hyphenate.

The whole name thing presents another issue too, my daughter is not biologically from my fiance, but he has been her father for the past year. Her donor was never present in her life.

I want to know if I will need permission from the donor to change her last name to my fiances when we get married. SHE inists that it be changed. She is 4.5 and recogonizes that my name will change and be the same as daddys and she wants that too.

Yes, if he's on her BC or anything, you will need his permission to change the name.

I hyphenated my last name when I got married. My husband and I both thought it would be neat because my maiden name starts with a z and so does my married name so it kinda sounds good together. Plus it made it easier for legal stuff. I don't have to worry about showing my marriage license if I ever go to the dmv or something or if I have a document with my maiden name. Legally its hyphenated so I have both names on my license and stuff but I only go by my husband's name in everyday life. Whenever I show my id everyone always asks me how I found a husband with a z last name too and how neat it is.
