update on my sick bavy

posted 30th Nov
The nurse just took him again to try to force some pedialyte into him. She made him CHOKE down an ounce. Which he just now threw back up. Im pissed, they aren't doing anything and im fed up. Om seriously to the point im wondering why they're keeping him in the hospital. Everything they're trying I've tried at home and it didn't work. Pretty sure I could keep doing this bullsmurf at home. Idk. I was told when the pediatrician admitted him that he would be given fluids and antibiotics through the IV. None of that has happened, they're not even trying to give him antibiotics. This is super frustrating and im about to the point to have them discharge him. They're not doing anything I couldn't be doing at home.

Poor baby! I'm shocked they wouldn't just give an IV.

This is the only hospital in the area that has a peds unit. I just told the nurse I want to talk to the doctor. If they're not gonna do smurf then let us go home. They're not doing anything I've not been doing at home.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. I really hate when people try to make me feel stupid. You are not measuring pee diapers you smurfing retard. Those diapers you're saying are pee are smurf!!!! He has diarrhea. He is not peeing that much and any intelligent person would see that. And they're weighing his clothes he throws up on lmao. Want my shirt and pants too?! Because that's where the majority of it goes. Or into my hand as im trying to catch it before it hits the floor. Wow im not impressed right now.

Obviously the peds unit sucks. I'm sorry you are dealing with this right now, but any hospital emergency room can treat an infant to adult. I would seriously ask for discharge paperwork and go to a different hospital. That's rediculous. I'm irritated for you. I saw your post earlier tonight, but didn't comment....

Their answer was give him a bottle. I let them try. It didn't work. Idk what else to do. Somehow he's not totally dehydrated (according to labs from two days ago) so they're "observing him"

if he is only under observation, i would tell them you want discharge papers because you are not satisfied with his care their. if they have a fit about it tell them you will sign papers to be discharged against medical advice

Im to this point. He just pooped. Only poop. I wrapped the diaper and saved it as asked. Now the nurse is basically making me out to be a liar because the diarrhea had saturated the rest of the diaper. Im beyond frustrated and its starting to affect my milk supply.

are they allowing you to still offer the breast? i would definitely keep trying to nurse him. i would also tell them to stop forcing the pedialite. if it makes him throw up it isn't helping him.

That sounds absolutely awful!! I'm so sorry you and your little man are going through this. Are they letting you try to bf at all or just trying to force a bottle?
If I were you, I'd discharge and go to another hospital if that is an option. No hospital should treat a patient or their family the way you're being treated. I understand they're trying to help the way they've been taught, but obviously they're refusing to listen to your thoughts/wishes. Unacceptable. Hope your son gets better soon! Keep us updated.

Our Pediatrician just cane through. We are weighing him before and after he nurses, and after any vomittijg/spitting up just to see how much he keeps down. She offered him a bottle of nreastmilk. He wouldn't take it so they will no longer try. If he isn't taking in sufficient amounts she will start an IV.

Has his care improved? If it comes down to it, you could demand to be transferred to a bigger hospital... might be farther away from your home, but maybe you could get into a Ronald McDonald house? If you stay where you are, you'll probably have to be very demanding of everyone, they might think you're a bitch, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

The hospital he was in is actually a big hospital. It has our regions NICU and pediatric trauma center. They discharged him. He's beginning to eat. Now I have what he had and I understand why he'd been so sick. Diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, body aches, chills.

I know how difficult it is to see your child in the hospital, I'm glad he's home. I hope he continues to get better, and that you feel better soon, also.
