night terrors?

posted 30th Nov
How old does a baby have to be to get them? What do you do for them?

My son just started screaming for no reason and could not be calmed...for most of it he had his eyes closed but he would just scream..he seemed as if he was asleep or didn't recognize us, our voice or anything..it even got worse when my dh tried saying his name or talking to him. The more it went he was opening his eyes but still couldn't be calmed.it was heartbreaking and I just wanted to comfort him but it didn't seem to do any good I've heard with night terrors your not suuposed to wake them but I felt like I was negelecting his needs letting him cry. Should I call the doctor about this?

Any help is appreciated

Mine has recently started similar. He will scream, but only for a moment or two and still be asleep :-\

I'm not sure if there's any certain age where they're more common, but DS always got them when he had teeth coming in. There's not a whole lot to do except hold them and love them. If calling the pedi would reassure you, go for it, but there's really no need to.

Do they go away on their own or do they just happen at random for a while? Should I pick him up when it happens or just rub his back.   I HATE seeing him cry so I felt horrible that I couldn't help. He finally calmed down after about 15 minutes and went to sleep so I'm just laying here cuddling him.

They do eventually go away on their own. During the night. And over all really. You can do what makes you feel better. But really not a lot can really help. Babies and kids that have night terrors are hard to wake up. I used to snuggle with and rub my son's back

My lo had night terrors since I brought her home. She had the hep b vaccine and vitamin k vaccine. They got worse after her 2 month vaccines and stopped after I stopped vaccinating at 2 months. But it got really bad and included shrieking while awake too. It lasted a few months after we stopped. Technically it won't be diagnosed as night terrors until age 3 to 12 I think. Kids with night terrors commonly test positive for heavy metal toxicity which is linked to vaccines and other toxins we expose our children to on a daily basis. Stress, fever and being over tired are some possible causes of night terrors too.

You are also not supposed to touch them or wake them up.if it truly is night terrors bc it puts more stress on them. It can make some lash out and push you away and get more frightened. But I used to hold my lo hand and say momma is here. She would quiet down after a few minutes.
