She IS responsible for her child's death! And she should be held accountable.
There are plenty of people who get distracted while driving and cause accidents that kill people. I'm sure they suffer emotionally but they still get sent to prison.
Why should this woman's guilt (and I'm sure it's painful for her as it should be) absolve her of responsibility ?

tbh i prly would have jumped in there and started trying to save my kid but you never know until your in that situation

She is responsible for putting him in that situation, but it was not intentional- therefore she is not accountable.

If you drive a car that has smurffy breaks and you know that, then the brakes fall out and you hit another car- that's not your fault. If you drive into the car ahead of you without hitting the breaks, that's intentional= and you're held accountable.

And I can understand OP's frustration. She has a point... regardless if the mother will live with it for the rest of her life. She DID disobey safety rules at the zoo, and she is responsible for the death of her child. It's not like the kid climbed the railing himself and fell... she put him in harms way. I don't even have kids, but when I hold onto a young cousin or SO's niece and hoist them up to see something... there's no way they're getting out of my arms unless they punch me in the face. So how was her grip that loose? He merely leaned forward (out of excitement, I'm guessing). And she lost grip? Eh...

Lady, please not everyone who kills someone in a car accident goes to jail. Not everyone who kills someone goes to jail either. People who should have been convicted weren't and people who shouldnt be are. Its the circle of life.

Accidents happen, this was a horrible one, yes. But I am positive she didnt wake up and say "lets throw him in the dog pen at the zoo"
