Not what I wanted to hear

posted 29th Nov
Hi, I was wondering if I could get some advice.
I talked to my doctor today about my birth plan.
I have a prior hip injury, and when I asked her about a c-section she just said that they would only do a c-section at the last minute if I can handle pushing my daugther out. Does anyone have any advice on what to do? I was thinking of calling labor and delivery to see what they say. I really dont want it to come to me getting an epidural and trying to push only to find out I cant and have my hips get worse. Im freaking out. Please help! I live in Alaska.

I would say you'd have to switch Doctors. You can't just ask the hospital, because if you had a C-section, it would be your Doctor doing the procedure. See if you can find a Doctor who will do what you wish.

We have been with the same doctor the whole time, so Its hard to switch now only because its all military personal. The only reason I thought about calling labor and delivery is because its a totally diffferent section. My doctor isnt even the one thats going to be with us during delivery!

Hmm... well then I'd just call around, speak to the Hospital, maybe other Doctors at the office and see what you can come up with.

Have you already pre-registered?

I did my pre-registration, and put my specific wants on there. That way (If baby comes before a scheduling) when you are admitted you are already registered and can skip majority of the paperwork, and they can pull up your chart and see that you prefer to have one.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to speak to labor and delivery, request that you speak to someone from the ACTUAL delivery team. Why bother convincing a Dr that isn't even doing the work anyways? Every patient has the right to get another DRs opinion. I can't express to you enough how important it is to read your hospitals bill of rights!

I have already pre registered and the way they did it was sitting down doing paper work, no preferences or anything. I was planning on calling in the morning talking to someone. When I walked into labor and delivery even one of the doctors said a c section should be on the table. I am so nervous about delivering in general, and this is making me even more nervous. I want my baby to be safe, but I dont want to not be able to walk afterwards.

my hospital has a way for me to access my chart online, not all hospitals do it. but it wouldn't hurt to ask them!!! i'm able to go on and add notes or requests tests. and the drs see it before every appointment.

Or next time you even speak with L&D tell them to put a note on your chart that you want a c-section. THEY HAVE TO PUT IT ON YOUR CHART!

I don't see them refusing a c-section when it comes down to it though. I'm sure no Dr wants to be responsible for any walking problems you have if there is damage.

if the doctor you see isnt gonna be the one delivering the baby, let the labor and delivery know what you wish
