Car safety and your elementary student

posted 29th Nov
1. Does your kindergartner-2nd grader ride in a booster seat?
2. Does your child under twelve ride in the front seat of the car?
3. On a scale of 1-10, how much of a priority (or important) are questions 1 & 2 to you? Is the booster seat a MUST for all travels, or is it no big deal every once in a while? Same with your under twelve year old- can he/she ride in the front on occasion or is this a strict no-no?

I ask because in the car line every morning drop off and afternoon pickup at my school, I notice that at least 6/10 kindergartner-2nd graders do not ride in a booster seat, and nearly 7/10 of 3-5th graders ride in the front seat. And you know, if you have a big kid, I understand, but 90% of these kindergartners should probably still be in a carseat weight wise.

Is Babygaga the only world where car safety is prioritized? I'm just kind of blown away by the lack of acknowledgment. I'm thinking about seeing if I could send home a school wide newsletter about car safety and carseat laws, because clearly nobody knows.

I'm going to be mean mom with my kids in a booster forever and they can sit in the back until they can drive.   My son's preschool class I'd say about 70% are already in backless booster and most are only 3. Pretty sad.

He is not mine, but yes my 2nd grader does ride in a booster seat, he is small for his age so he is definitely in one.

When pregnant BG opened my eyes to how important carseat/booster seat safety is

Is it negligence? Laziness? Simply not knowing about the laws? I just don't understand. I was seriously in a booster seat until I was nine.

My 8 yo who is 50 inches tall rides in a booster.

the only time he's ever been in the front seat, was when we moved across state and he rode w/ dad in the uhaul and once before because his dad thought he was tall enough for it to be safe (I put a stop to that really quick!)

my son is 5 1/2 and is still in a 5 pt harness in the back seat. He's 50 lbs or so.
The ONLY time he is in the front seat is if he's in a car that has no back seat. And then he's still in his car seat.
Car seat safety is very important to me. I want my kids to be as safe as possible.
I would hate for something to happen to one of them in an accident and for me to know that it could've been avoided if they were properly seated/buckled in.

I honestly think here it's just stupidity. No one reads or cares about the laws. They see the cheap $10 booster at walmart with the 30lbs weight limit and think omg this is so much easier then a car seat and buy it.

I don't see why it wouldn't be a priority for every parent. I know a woman who lost her one-yr-old granddaughter a few years ago in a car accident because the mother didn't buckle her in. I just... don't understand. Why wouldn't you buckle your child in?

Maybe there are more stupid people than I think and I'm just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.

. Does your kindergartner-2nd grader ride in a booster seat? Kindergartner & in a 5pt harness 95% of the time. He rides in a booster in his dads work vehicle occasionally.
2. Does your child under twelve ride in the front seat of the car? Only my nephew who is 15 & niece who is 13 ride in the front seat.
3. On a scale of 1-10, how much of a priority (or important) are questions 1 & 2 to you? Very very important.
Is the booster seat a MUST for all travels, or is it no big deal every once in a while? They will be in boosters till they pass the 5 step test & their feet rest on the floor of the vehicle.
Same with your under twelve year old- can he/she ride in the front on occasion or is this a strict no-no? In their dads work trucks they can, they have no airbags & has no back seat. In his vehicle it doesn't have a airbag, but they still sit in the backseat.

My kindergarten uses a 5 point still. Only reason she is not in a booster is because she is 28lbs still. Lol

My 10 yr old often rides in the front for short trips. Up to the store or to the mail which is down the street.
