My Son keeps ripping his toenails
posted 29th Nov
He is 12 months...I clip them short...but he still somehow rips them until they bleed pretty regularly.
This happened to anyone else?
Idk if his nails are weak or growing funny or what

Mine gets it too. On the big toe mainly. I think it might be because he uses his big toe mainly to get up from kneeling to standing and walks with his toes curled.

That makes sense...he does curl his toes a lil when walking...is that normal?
Yeah its both big toes...they rip bad
It's a lil better if I put socks on him.

Yeah, it's normal. He will stop toe curling when he's a more confident and stable walker. You could get him some soft soled leather booty shoes to help protect his feet, too.

How long does the unstable walking stage last usually? He has been walking all over the house for about 2 1/2 months.
I have a pair of those rubber roos ...that's a good idea! I will buy more

All of my kids have been delayed in motor skills and talking, so I'm not the one to ask about typical time frames. I'm sorry I don't have better info on that for you...
