You can donate your time. Then SO doesn't get upset about money.

You could help by organizing a food drive and then donating it to your local food pantry.

I feel the same way. I am in no way financially able to help, but I do a few drives a year for different places.

Last summer I did a diaper drive for a local womens shelter. I collected disposables, formula, wipes & cloth diapers. Last xmas I collected winter clothing for adults and kids, boots, toys, sample size toiletries. This year I didnt the same thing, except for a different organization.

I would love to, but we just moved here, and I know about 3 people in the state. ha ha. I'm too socially awkward to ask strangers. Maybe I will see about volunteering time though. There is one for homeless moms that I"m interested in.

In general, conservatives donate more to those in need than liberals.
BUT, that is not the point of your post. I'd do a food drive OR a clothing drive. LOTS of people just need a good reason to go thru the closets and shoe racks.

I just emailed them. I see most of their volunteering is done during times that I work. I said I do pictures, office stuff, or can even wrap presents. Let me know! lol

You could start by making flyers and posting them up at local grocery stores and maybe just running it out of your house and then donate it to the local shelter (which ever your choose, pantry, moms in need). I do like the other idea that someone posted about collecting donated items for moms in need with diapers and formula. Its a great idea

My husband is also conservative but he respects my viewpoint and is open to new ideas.

I think you will regret it if you let someone, anyone, dictate your conscience.

Im strong enough to still do whatever I want... but I dont want to deal with the teasing. lol. He understands that there are things I have to do, I donate my hair, signed up for organ and bone marrow donation, clothes, etc. I dunno... he's just gotten angrier about helping this year due to the election and what not.

I'd donate time if I didn't have the funds to do so. Time is valuable. I love helping others. The last few years we've picked 3 families via United Way programs to sponsor. It's very rewarding. I think volunteering is just as rewarding, though.
I'd really have a talk with him about this. If this is something you are passionate about, then discuss it with him and ask him to support you.

He will probably feel more generous when you are financially stronger. I understand being tight with money until you feel more secure.

He probably feels that people need to help themselves more. I am very conservative fiscally, but very socially liberal.
What I liked about selecting families via United Way is I got a little of their backstory from the people that work with them regularly. These people have hit rock bottom and want to help themselves.
Many people don't want to help themselves, they just want a handout.

I think that's it too. We just moved to another state, bought a house, a car, we're just getting back on our feet... and I got pregnant. ha ha. He's nervous I think
