Hell. Even if you had 10 close family members, and gave each $50,000, for a cushion or a house downpayment, or anything like that.... that's still a tiny assed chunk of your money.

Though, I would give my family way more than that. haha

yeah. i woulda paid off my parents house, and all their debt. and then my car and DH's. then paid off my school loans, and then put my sister through college. saved some for the kids college. bought a house for myself.

oh, and probably invested it so i could make profit off of it..

second of all hell yeah I'd share that amount of money. Not only would I ensure my family, husband's family and our extended families were taken care of, I would also donate a LARGE amount to charity.

I would have huge guilt keeping that all to myself......HUGE

I think you're all stupid for arguing about money you don't even have.

But yes I'd set my mom, sisters, gma, and three best best friends up for a great life and get the rest of my family out of debt with a little extra for savings.

Dh and I have already talked about this. We would share it. 1 million to each set of parents. My grandma would get some. I would set money away for DD and future children. We would buy a modest house and pretty much bank everything away and live like normal people. DD and future siblings would then have plenty of money when they got older for their children.

And seriously, 550 MILLION DOLLARS? Putting four kids through college is pocket change compared to 550 million dollars.

I would share, esp. if we all agreed and put in on the tickets.

You can't be mad or hurt if one of them wins, they all split it and don't give y'all a dime.
To answer your question......I think that is very selfish.

Money doesn't last forever but family does...think about that before you let it tear y'all apart.

I'd definitely share it with my family and friends but I also wouldn't have even been arguing about money that I don't have to begin with.  

ok, let me explain a little further. i only read the 1st couple of responses. i would definately pay off all the bills my parents and MIL have but as far as giving BIL money it would be a big fat no. it was mainly him i meant not sharing with but i couldn't just say that to them. he'd blow it all on junk he didn't need. they were talking about whoever winning buying everyone huge houses and sports cars. i don't see why people want to blow money on nonsense like that. i told them i'd donate a large chunk of it to things for kids. like shelters and organizations. i wouldn't keep it all to myself. plus the government takes a chunk out of it before you even get it.

So you wouldn't blow a cent on stuff you "didn't need"? I somehow doubt that. I understand it completely now. You'd only gift people things if you can totally control what they buy.

You keeping it all to yourself would be a huge help. haha. I'm being an ass, I'm sorry.... but I think buying your family a house, things like that is way more practical than sticking all of it in an account.

And I like the charity idea... but I would feel way more comfortable giving my money directly (like, handing an individual money) or indirectly (buying them a house I know they need) than donating directly to large charities. I would always fear my money was being misused, and not actually helping people that need it.

Pretty sure with 550 million you could give everyone in your family money and still have plenty for the future and what it may hold. Lol

Yes I would share it. IT is a lot of money and you could give your family and his a set amount and put the money in a bank for college and cars. 550 million is a lot of money. It would take a long time to spend if used wisely. I always said if I won I would give my parents money but since my sister wastes money I would buy them a house and have it wrote up that they can not sell it without my permission.
