how to get your baby on a schedule

posted 29th Nov
my LO is now 6mo old and started sleeping through the night at 2 months. For the last 2-3 weeks he hasn't been. He wakes up often and just cries or he is hungry in the middle of the night (which I find weird because he'll drink an 8oz bottle before bed and before that use to last him until 7-8 am - now it'll be around 4am) Anywho, sometimes I do co-sleep with him, but that is only if I am extremely tired during a feeding and after I just fall asleep with him in my arms when he falls asleep as well.

do you think he is getting too use to falling asleep in my arms? How are you babies sleeping? and what type of schedule are they on? give me a play-by-play of their day!

usually LO goes to bed anywhere from 10-11. The later he falls asleep, the later he sleeps till. but today his Pedi said that is waaaaaay too late for a 6month old to go to bed. But honestly, that is when he is tired. I give him a bathy around 6-7 and he is wide awake until about 10.

His pedi said to allow him to start sleeping in his own room now (so SO has to move everything out of the backroom) and to give him tough love and do not get him when he cries, just let him cry it out if he's not hungry. I usually do that - but with him being in the same room as us - it just because easier to grab him if he's been crying/fussing for a while and rock him back to sleep instead of trying to go back to sleep with a crying baby.

I feel like i have a newborn again! HELP!

My oldest started waking up when we moved(was sleeping all night at 3 months), and once we got him back to sleeping all night, he started teething and would wake up because of that. So maybe your LO is teething?

As for going to sleep, my toddler has to go to sleep by 9 or he won't sleep all night. My baby goes to sleep with DH and I around 11, sometimes earlier but sleeps in till 8 or 9. Sometimes later. All babies are different and your pedi doesn't know your baby like you do. So if he doesn't go to sleep till late, who cares as long as he is getting enough sleep!

babies go back and forth on sleep. Just because babies reach a point where they sleep through the night, doesn't mean they always will. Check out "the no cry sleep solution"

That's normal for 6 month old after they get mobile or more aware of things and things around they get distracted and don't eat as much so they wake up to eat. DD always had a schedule but that didn't change the waking up 2-6 times a night. It's worse when she's teething.

She always got up at 7am and nap whenever just not after 3pm and went to bed around 8-10pm

yeah my son still wakes up for a bottle during the night. my pedi said some babie are just like that..they'll grow out of it. pluas its easier to feed them wuick and put them back to bed then to sit there and let them cry if they need something... i've never let my son cio...and i've never had any issues.

they're a group of Pedi's so we see a different one just about every time but they all know Logan pretty well. He didn't say "cry it out" specifically, but he did say to stop picking him u[p every time he cries in the night, because he may get use to "oh, let me cry and mommy will come get me" kind of idea.

and that is what I was thinking, a growth spurt, but this has been going on for about 3 weeks now. Are growth spurts that long? I remember reading and someone telling me they last about 2 weeks.

I was thinking that too! Last night I felt in his mouth and I felt a little bump on his lower right bottom gum. He gummed so bad at his paci that there was a little blood on it! He is always so happy during the day that it's just at night and I kinda ruled out teething but I may give that another thoguht!

Every baby is different. And like someone else said he may be teething too.

my LO is almost 6 months old and has been sleeping through night since 3 months. I give him a bath around 6ish, then a bottle. He goes to sleep usually between 7-8 and doesn't wake up til 7-730am. He's also teething and doesn't nap for crap during the day so I think that's why he sleeps so good during the night.

He may be teething to be quite honest. My DD has slept through the night since 2 months and only wakes up throughout the night when she is teething. She's in that process right now actually and wakes up going "Dada Dada Dada!". She cut her first two bottom teeth around 5 1/2 months and was up every night multiple times for about 2 weeks (maybe longer, I am not exactly sure on the period length.)

get a new pedi! my 4 month old goes to sleep when shes tired...usually around midnight. she will sleep until 9 or 10. we get up and i feed her...she takes an hour nap after being awake for about 3 or 4 hours. then eat again and play. Most days she takes 2 naps a day ( actual hr or so nap ). My pedi knows this and said its fine. She said as she gets older she will start going to bed earlier on her own and prolly waking earlier. last night dd stayed up until 2 am...sleep until 6am..ate and went right back to sleep until 12:30. I think your baby is prolly going through a growth spurt. dd has slept through the night since 4 weeks...then around 2 1/2 months she started getting up twice a night to sleep. She back to normal now sleeping...it lasted about 3 or 4 weeks. good luck

Teeth tend to cut through during the evening and night hours, just because of relaxed muscles and the body is at rest generally so it stimulates the teeth to cut through. It's kind of the same idea of you grow at night, because your body is at rest and has a chance to stimulate the growth( generally for younger people like kids and babies).
