Well ladies I think that's it for him and I. I called him because I just got a piece of mail with a job opportunity making 18-21.00/hr and he said its too close to my home and then said he can't read and I snapped.

I think you are making the right decision, giving the baby your last name....but not for the reasons in your OP.

I'm of the opinion that all children of unwed mothers should get their mother's last name.

I told him a lot of women think like that and like another girl said, it's much easier to change the last name when we get married(not that I see that happening) honestly if its not going to make or break anything she can have his last name. I just don't want things harder for me if I do that, we break up and then he wants to get dirty. Hell I told him I wouldn't even want child support from his ass I don't want to deal with court I don't want any of that. He, on the other hand, would try.. But he doesn't have money for courts and a lawyer and what not or anyone to help him either. If I gave her his last name and that's basically confirming he's the dad then I don't think he'd have to pay for a paternity test to start court with me. Whereas if baby has my last name he would have to pay, my friend here said to start any child custody things he would have to pay for the test to start anything. That's what I'm debating.

If you give the baby your last name and list no father on the birth certificate, your friend is correct. There's no physical proof that the child is his so he would have to start with a paternity test to prove that he even has a claim over your child.

Oh my... This is a terribly tough decision...): I figured if he comes to the delivery and is supportive I'm going to put his last name on there... If he doesn't show up then I guess he made that decision for me. I'm dying with all of this and just want to do the right thing for our baby and for myself if things got ugly. ): I love him I really do.. I just feel he doesn't feel the same... Thanks for all the help ladies.
