Give birth at different hospital
posted 28th Nov
Can I give birth at a hospital other than the one I'm seen at as a patient?
We are military and the hospital on post is 45 min away because we live off post in Barstow. But there is a hospital here and it's only 5 min away. I've never been seen there but if it comes down to it and we don't feel safe risking the 45 minute drive, can we give birth at this other hospital?
I'm currently in early labor, contracting 3-5 minutes apart and they are excruciating! 3 cm dilated, 50% effaced. Second child and my first labor was only 13 hours from the time my water broke on it own, no contractions at all until the time my daughter was born. So I'm worried I will have a quick labor and won't make it to our hospital 45 min away.

i wouldnt risk it and just go to the closer hospital! good luck! you probably should have thought about that a little sooner lol

You need approval from your doctor. I tried to give birth at the hospital my mom was an l&d nurse at and they wouldn't let me.
& you're a champ for living in Barstow instead of on post. I'd rather be at Irwin than barstow.

You would have to have a referral. So, I guess your PCM is at the MTF then? You should be able to have a PCM closer to you...something like being within a 30 minute drive of them. I'd have to look it up to be exact.

Just get in the ar and drive now.
Generally, unless it is an emergency, you have to go to the hospital that your doctor can legally practice in

I was just there like 4 hours ago and they sent me home, they just keep sending me home and tell me to wait until my contractions are 3-4 min apart but I'm worried I won't make it there in time

i wd g to the further hospital now and throw a fit and tell them you are not going back smurfing home because it is almost an hour drive there. A lot of people where i used to live would deliver at Huntsville Hospital that was an hour away because it was better then all the nearer hospitals.

Try Victor Valley. I had my DD there, they're pretty good. It's not too far from you.

Pretty much same distance as post. I like the military hospital, it's just my worry that I won't make it there.
