Am I the only one who thinks this is kind of smurfed up?

Can't clck the link but why is it smurfed up? Addicts clearly shouldn't be having babies.

That's completely wrong
When I was 18 I was severely addicted to drugs and now I'm a full time therapist and in graduate school. I'm not sure I would have turned out this way if I would have been pressured into sterilization rather than education when I was in my early recovery.
Also, there are really other places that money could go.

Hmmm....
I do not think it is smurfed up. She said that "everyone who's opted for sterilization in Project Prevention has already had children" which tells me that they know what they are getting themselves into by being sterilized. I think it's actually pretty awesome they are giving that option. I am sure many men would love to have vasectomies that cannot afford it. Killing two birds with one stone.

Um... No, I think it's okay. I don't agree with forcing them, but smurf, if they want to, GOOD

Of course not, but plenty of people are able to overcome their addictions and lead happy productive lives.

Who cares? If you wanted kids then don't get it, if you aren't capable of making such a permanent decision than you shouldn't be getting pregnant anyway.

It's more like they're desperate for another fix and will do anything to get it, without thinking about the long term effects.

If she's telling the truth and everyone who chose sterilization already has children, then I feel like they probably know what they're getting into. And I see no problem at all with offering money in exchange for long term birth control like an IUD. There is the argument that drug addicts aren't of sound mind to make long term decisions, but you can really apply that to almost everything that they do. And it isn't forcing anyone to be sterilized, it's just offering an incentive.

Which is the same reason they get pregnant, not thinking about the long term.
All the more reason to get sterilized.

I read further and it says she does offer just long-term birth control, like IUDS. I assumed by just reading the beginning that she was only offering permanent options which I didn't like because obviously people can lead completely new lives and be able to care for a child properly if they get clean and stay clean.

Not my problem.
Their choice. They can no longer spawn, get paid, then promptly go get high. Win/win
**it's not permanent, surgical sterilization can be reversed

I care significantly more about children than addicts, even recovered ones. So I'm bias I guess.

When I first read I just noticed the word "sterilization" and was thinking about only permanent options and how many addicts aren't in the right state of mind to make a such a huge permanent decision. When I read that she offers many other options though it made more sense.

It's not forced so no, I don't thinks its smurfed up. Actually I cracked up that people would only take $300!
