That's how I feel. Extra help is great. Shower is never about the gifts. It's about celebrating the new baby especially if it's a new gender that isn't already in the family and if they choose to bring a gift then Great. It's extra help for us.

Now change of subject....what about instead of having a baby shower but one of those Meet the Baby Parties? Is it tacky to throw your own one of those?

I dont think its tacky to throw your own party of any kind..... (with my boys, i had to do most of everything and the planning because no one really cared, but now that we live back close to family, its a lil different. i will still be in charge of most of it- but thats because im a control freak.)

How does that even make sense?
Usually a family member OFFERS. In which case, they can obviously afford it.

This... my family didn't give enough of a smurf to organise anything, so I came up with the date and stuff and my BIL's girlfriend and her sister helped me plan it. But it was my idea. I wouldn't have got one if I hadn't planned it myself, and for my first baby I really wanted one.

I guess that completely went over your head..or you are just trying to argue? Idk...but my point was that some people dont have family members/friends to OFFER to throw a baby shower for them. What if you live far away from all your friends and family? There a numerous reasons someone may not have someone else to throw them a baby shower and i dont think they need people like you judging whether it is acceptable or not.

Regardless....if you think throwing your own baby shower is tacky then you should probably think that throwing your own house party or christmas party or birthday party is tacky too.

I didn't have anyone to host my first baby shower I had to do everything myself make invite list order them cuz yeah really who wants to spend all that money on someone elses baby shower nobody but yourself so in the times we are in now I think its completly fine to do it yourself...And for my second I did have a Arrival Party when he was 15 days old for my loved ones and close friends to come meet him that alot better then the random stop bys when you maybe didnt feel like having company! Get out of your BOXES people its 2012!

I take it you threw your own shower...twice  
I think it's tacky to have a baby shower for each child, especially when it's because someone is too cheap to buy clothes. Family will buy gifts regardless, a shower is just making them feel that it's expected of them and it shouldn't be.
