Food at 13 months.

posted 28th Nov
Forgive me for asking this because I'm totally clueless about babies about a year old but should food given to a 13 month old still be cut/torn up into pieces? Like, for example, when my friend was over she gave her 13 month old daughter a cheeseburger. Personally, that's not my thing but not my kid so yeah. Anyway, she split it in half but that was about it. I asked if it was okay that her baby was trying to put half the bun in her mouth at once and she told me 'Yeah, she's just learning. She'll pull it out if it's too much.'

Is that right? I am seriously not judging, I just honestly have no clue. I feel like maybe I'm overly cautious or something because I am pretty sure at that age Felix will still be getting small pieces to eat. Now I'm wondering if that's normal for me to want to do that or if a kid that age can eat stuff in bigger pieces.

Hmmm. Bo was having larger peices by that time but she was BLW and started table food at 5 months.

I did still cut a lot of her food up though...

I've started practicing with LO giving him larger things (but not cheeseburgers). He used to get cut up chicken when I baked chicken, but now I leave the pieces bigger since he's learning to bite off of things. He knows how much is too much but I think that varies from kid to kid.

Idk my daughter is almost 13 months and I still cut hers up pretty small.... She only has 3 teeth though, and another on the way.. I know her gums are very hard and can def cut through food but it still scares me.

Yes it's fine. All kids are different. I don't give my son a whole half of a hamburger cuz it's messy and it's more junk then I allow, but he could handle it. He gets other foods in that size. He will tear it up himself, or take bites. He will pull the food out if he gets too much. He actually does worse with smaller foods because he can grab a handful and shove it in. Like with rice. And it's harder for him to remove. My MIL made a big deal when my SO have him a half of a kids cereal bar. Trust that parents know what their kids can handle.
