re: Powerball winnings - $500M!

posted 28th Nov
I have heard that the lumpsum amount witll be over $300m. So, I'd make sure i get it all in 2012 to avoid the ridiculous tax rate that may be in place in 2013.
I'd get a really good investor as $300m is a LOT of money.

In general, I'd make sure you parents lived in moderate luxury for the rest of their lives. I'd love to do the same with my MIL, but i think she'd only let us buy her a new car. lol
I'd pay my brother's debts and pimp-out his house as hurricane sandy wrecked much of his home.
I'd buy or fully fund:
- a beach house
- a luxury RV and an off-site garage for it
- a lucrative business and locate it in an area in desperate need of jobs
- education for my 3 neices (stings attached, of course)
I'd pimp-out my current properties for poor people, buy a few more and rent them to poor people with major strings attached regarding their own advancement and achievelements of their kids
of course, I'd pay the remaining mortgages on our properties, get the new car i want, hire a personal trainer and housekeeper that comes each week.
I'd give LOTS to well-researched charities. I'd invest in businesses that needed funding for expansion and hiring of lots of people.
I'd travel the world and bring my parents along to babysit!

Win. On all of that. Love that you'd help stimulate the economy with it!

I'd build a museum for just artwork done by kids. It'd have free workshops and art education classes, day camp, stuff like that in addition to the exhibits. Maybe it'd have a library as well--with just books by kids/teens, which would offer writing workshops and things like that.

So did everyone posting buy a ticket? We bought one just for balls. I still have the "we would never win" mentality even though its those who win that think the same thing. Wouldn't it be crazy if one of us did win?? Even posting rhetorically I couldn't actually imagine literally having that kind of money. I wouldn't be able to tell my dad right away. No joke he has a bad heart. I'd have to drive him to the emergency room and then tell him for fear he would actually have a heart attack. *shudders* he bought two tickets actually.

I'd do the lump sum. I'd put 100k each away for my kids, put 1.5 mil away to live off of, buy a house for my family, build a house for my mom, I'd probably take a trip around the world or something.

Psh. No.

As much as I'd like to win, having the extra few bucks is much more important than the lottery, which I will not win.

i'd invest some, save a huge chunk for dd's future, take care of family and friends' needs/debts, buy a house and a few secondary residences, pay off all my bills, travel, and give sizeable donations to a few charities and church.

I would make sure my parents and siblings were well off. And I would buy some land (just a little bit) and build a house, because I want everything perfect for owning a home lol. And I would buy better vehicles. I would save the majority of it. I would keep working, but I would get a different job that I would like better and only work part time or something!

Avoid telling anyone and carry on with life as normal.

I wouldn't do anything with my MIL... she's everywhere, it'd be a huge waste of money. they bought a house, and sold it again in 3 months... has lived everywhere in the US, and never lives anywhere longer than a year.

Buy a house in the desert and buy my mom a new car. Hide the rest somewhere and use it when I need it. Have another kid.

Idk if you can buy them today. My dad said his quick picks were $2. I guess if you pop into a gas station today you could always ask? I don't play the numbers. I can't even win on scratch off tickets. I'm not lucky. Lol
