Thyroid conditions and pregnancy

posted 28th Nov
I had a partial thyroidectomy and lobectomy almost a year ago (Dec 5) because I had a large tumor on my right thyroid. The tumor was benign (thank God) and I have been placed on a synthetic thyroid hormone to regulate my levels (levothyroxine)..

I have read about weigh gain and other symtoms related to the removal of the thyroid and various thyroid conditions and one in particular kind of bothered me and it was the liklihood of fertility issues.. So my question is has anyone here had (have) a thyroid condition and has had trouble conceiving or keeping a ciable pregnancy? We want to start trying next year for a baby and I'm kind of terrified that I wont be able to conceive.

I have an appt next month scheduled with my endocrinologist so I will be asking her then but I was just wondering if anyone here had any info?

That makes me so sad

Since your levels are at the right place has your hair stopped falling out as much?

I got Graves disease (hyperthyroid) I never took the meds and it went into remission on it's own 2 years later. I never had any symptoms except for a month when my heart rate was around 140 to 150 and had to be put on a beta blocker to bring it down. I was single till about 5 months before my son turned 3 and got back together with my x-husband we had sex 4 days and got pregnant I wasn't expecting it to happen for it had never been that easy before. So I think it depends on the person.

Clomid is no joke I've talked to so many people who've been on it and gotten pregnant super quick! lol

It looks like there is a small woodland creature in the drain after I shower. It's awful!

its not always that fast tho, our neighbors (both husband and wife) were on it for over a year then they pretty much "gave up" on trying then got pregnant but it worked and they have a healthy 13 or 14 year old girl

I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis. With DD, it was pretty quick, but we have been trying 9 months to conceive again. I just miscarried, and we are going to try again. My sister and mother both have hypothyroidism and have no problems getting pregnant.

I am on 125 mcg of Synthroid right now. I still get horrible headaches and joint pain. My hair doesn't fall out as badly, but my skin is super dry and my nails are crap. And I still fatigued all the time. But my levels are "normal", so they won't increase my dosage.

It took us 16 months to get pregnant with this baby, and 4 months of those I took Clomid. Some people get pregnant exteremly fast within the first round or two... I started getting discouraged after the 3rd failed round but still decided to try one more, I said I was done if I didnt get pregnant on the 4th and wasn't taking anymore Clomid. That pill made me an emotional mess haha. I hope you don't have any fertility problems and can have another baby, I know how frustrating it is to try for so long. Good luck to you when you start TTC!
