FTM with 2 questions

posted 28th Nov
A little background... My sweet baby girl is 3.5 weeks old. She was born at 39 weeks and weighed 6 pounds 1oz. I tried breast feeding but just didnt make enough and she started losing weight. Pedi told me to supplement with formula so I did and after struggling with pumping enough, my DD is now completely formula fed. She now weights 7lbs.

1st question: Am I feeding her too much? She eats 3-4 ounces every 3 hours. From what I have read that seems pretty normal for a larger baby but she is so small still. I have heard that babys won't over-eat but I have also heard that they will if their tummys hurt because they can't tell the difference.

2nd question: Any burping tricks? Sometimes she will burp, but the past few days its been almost impossible to get her to burp. I will stop her halfway through a feeding and try but usually nothing. At the end of a feeding she is just ready to go to sleep and won't stay awake to burp. I have tried putting her on my shoulder, sitting her upright on my lap, laying her across my lap. I walk with her, rock her, bounce her.... Lol. I feel like I have tried EVERYTHING!

Sorry I know it's long... Thanks in advance!

That amount of formula is good. She won't take it if she is full. Also,if she doesn't burp it's ok. You can try to burp her but if she doesn't don't frett yourself about it.

You aren't feeding her too much. All babies are different and will eat different amounts. She wont take it if she doesnt want it
My son rarely ever burps when I try but give him a few minutes and he will burp himself lol.

That amount is perfect   it will only increase over time lol. My now 6 monyh old took 2 oz every 2 hours. With both my boys, one is 3 the other is 6 months, I used Dr. Browns bottkles and they rarely burp. If they dont get air while drinking they wont need to burp. When you're baby gets older and can sit up with your support try putting her on your knee and leaning her forward. You have a better chance of getting a burp out. Congrats!

I use Dr. Browns so maybe that's why. She is very strong. She can honestly hold her head up for the most part already. If I sit her on my lap to burp, I don't usually have to support her head unless she is sleepy. If she is awake and alert she holds it up herself! She can also roll from her belly to her back too!

1. she will stop eating when shes hungry. or you can try to remove the bottle and see if she seems satisfied. some babies just like to suck. if she gets fussy give her more. 2. try centering the base of your palm to her side, hold it there then pat her in a cupping fashion. always keeping your wrist area against one side and your finger tips should be patting her other side.. hope that makes sense.

she will stop eating when shes hungry or if she overeats the most that will happen is she will spit it up so just let her eat what she wants. what i do to burp my son is sit him up right on my lap and bounce him a little and that usually works
